Stroke and Turn Training Session

Dear Texas Gold Families,

WOW!!!  Our "Stuff Their Stockings" Christmas campaign to Ben and David was a HUGE success!!!  Thank you many times over to those who participated.  Ben and David LOVED their stockings and let me tell you, they were certainly stuffed!  They received tons of gift cards to many wonderful places and I am sure our beloved coaches will appreciate them...as I know WE all appreciate our coaches so very much.

Thank you again Texas Gold.  I hope each and every one of you has a very Blessed Christmas Season!

Blessings,
Julie Zenisek

We will be offering a silent auction to help raise funds for our upcoming scholarships for our qualifying graduating seniors.  We are seeking items to offer for our silent auction!!  Last year, we had a great response from our local businesses with great gift packs, services and gift cards.  All sponsors will get their logo displayed at the meet in our heat sheets, website, and concessions.  All monetary donations ARE tax-deductible.  I am seeking someone to coordinate this effort, to ensure we do not duplicate our requests to the same businesses.  Let me know if you are interested!!

Congratulations to Texas Gold Swimmers who competed at the Temple Christmas Classic who swam at 58% best times!!  These swimmers achieved NEW time standards!

Congratulations to AG Masters Swimmer, Shawn Feather for winning high point award in the her age group at the 2010 South Central Champs in San Antonio!!  Way to GO!!

KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK, GOLD and AGM!!!

I have attached the calendar for the remainder of December.  Here are some areas of interest for the rest of this week:

  • ·            We are offering a Start Clinic TODAY for FUNdamental and Advanced Teams in place of your regularly scheduled practices for today.  The Clinic will be 5-6:15PM at the Rec Center.
  • ·            No PM practices on Friday
  • ·            We will have our regularly scheduled Saturday practice.

I have added the Central Texas Invitational at Temple on Jan 15th to our meet schedule.  I have attached the meet invite for your review.  Preliminary entries are due Tuesday, Dec 28th and final entries are due Thursday, Dec 30th.

Championship Meets:  These meets will have a preliminary session in the morning, and then the fastest times by 16 swimmers in each event from prelims will return that evening to compete for their place at the final session.

“B” Champs- Jan 21-23, 2011 in San Antonio.  Swimmers must have a “B” time in any event you swim.  You may not have a “BB” or faster time, or a time slower than a “B” time.  The goal for this meet is to achieve  a “BB” or faster time so you may compete in the “BB” Champs.  Time standards may be found HERE (be sure to look at times listed for "Shortcourse Yards").

“BB” Champs- Feb 11-13, 2011 in San Antonio.  Swimmers must have a “BB” time in any event you swim.

“A” Champs- Feb 25-27, 2011 in Belton.  Swimmers must have at least an “A” time, but may not swim any event in which they have achieved TAGS or Sectionals cut.

Sectionals- March 3-6, 2011 at Texas A&M Univeristy.  Generally senior level swimmers, cuts are HERE.

TAGS- March 10-13, 2011 at Loos Natatorium in Dallas.  14&U swimmers, cuts are HERE.

I have also attached a top times list for everyone to date for this season, which will show the time standards achieved in each event.  As always, however, this is available on our website.  Go to the <Meet Info> webpage, and click the <Team Stats> button.

Merry Christmas!!!!!

GO GOLD!!!
12-14-10
I apologize for the delayed notice, but entries for the New Year's Classic are due Wednesday night!!  I must submit our team entries to the host team by 11AM on Thursday.

If I suspect that you will be going, I will enter you, and will be able to scratch you by Dec 27th without penalty should you not be able to attend.   This is a "B and Faster" meet, which means you may only swim events in which you have a B time or faster, or are able to achieve a B or faster time.  We are able to enter you without a proof of time, but there is a $30 fine if you are unable to swim a B or faster time if we do not have proof.  This is also a prelim/final meet Friday-Sunday (3 FULL days), which means you will miss school on Friday, if you attend that day.  I will be able to write notes for anyone needing one.

It is also my understanding that they will be offering a USA Stroke Official's Clinic at this meet if you wish to become a certified Stroke and Turn Judge to help officiate our home meets and away meets.  Let me know if you are interested!

Greetings Pre-Senior/Senior/Masters Teams:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

Schedule this week:
No practices on Thursday.
Friday @ Village Pool 7:45-9:30AM for Pre-Senior/Masters and 7:45-10AM for Senior Team
Friday 4-5:30PM Advanced Team, 4-5:45PM for Pre-Senior/Senior Team
Saturday same times as Friday morning @ Village Pool.

Friday, there is an "arctic blast," as they are calling it, traveling through our area Thursday evening.  Currently, the temperature is predicted to be around 38 degrees Friday at 8AM, which is well within our tolerable temperature range.  We are also waiting on final word that the Village Pool is ready for our use!  The pool has been filled, the chemicals are seemingly balanced, and the pool is being heated.  Unfortunately, it seems that the water pipes to the pool may be rusted.  We will be making our final decision for Friday's practice by Thursday evening.  We will post our decision for Friday and Saturday's practices on our Twitter account Thursday evening around 6PM, which immediately posts to our Facebook account, and will be immediately posted on the Twitter widget which is posted on the lower left part of the Home Page of our website.

I will be submitting our final team entries on Friday evening to UT for the Jingle Bell Splash, so if you have any additions or changes, please get them to me ASAP!  I have attached an updated entry list for your review.  Temple Christmas Classic meet entries (for FUNdamental and Advanced Teams) will be due Tuesday.  The Online Team Stats is still down.

I have attached a special sale issued by Lane Four SwimShop for your review.

Please read this info on a forum on education for sports nutrutionOur swimmers and parents of swimmers have been cordially invited to attend this free forum, and I HIGHLY encourage your participation:

I have attached preliminary entries for the Temple Christmas Classic and UT Jingle Bell Splash.  Please review and submit any changes for Jingle Bell Splash by WEDNESDAY and for Temple by TUESDAY, NOV 30th.  The Hy-Tek server is being relocated, so the Team Stats online service will be down for awhile, which is why I have included the preliminary entries as attachments.

THANK YOU to everyone who worked their tails off to make this one of the most successful GOLD meets in history!!  Although it was a very long day, we were RIGHT on schedule with very few glitches!  I have found, however, that I need to designate a volunteer coordinator for our final home meet.  Although we did a fairly good job of filling the necessary positions, I failed as a volunteer coordinator to follow through in getting some very important positions filled, and we ended up having to scramble to find some people at the last minute.  This will be a new position for our final home meet February 19-20th.
At our final home meet, we will also be having a silent auction benefitting the SwimGeorgetown Scholarahip Fund that provides $500 scholarships to eligible graduating high school senior swimmers, as well as providing financial assistance to families in need.  We will be seeking item donations from local businesses to offer as items for bidding during the course of the meet.  Most nation-wide businesses require 30-90 days advance notice prior to an event in order to provide donations.  If you know of any businesses willing to make a donation for our silent auction, please let me know!  We are looking for gift cards/certificates, services, or anything people would be willing to bid on!   It's amazing what businesses will offer if we just ask!  For instance, I bought stop watches for a swim meet last year at Dick's Sporting Goods, and they easily gave me a $50 gift card to offer at our silent auction!  100% of the proceeds will go directly to the SwimGeorgetown Scholarship Fund.  I would like to keep track of the businesses we solicit so we are not "double dipping," so please let me know if you plan to seek a donation from a particular business.

Congratulations to our Texas Gold swimmers who competed in our Second Annual Best Times Turkey Meet!!  GOLD Georgetown swimmers enjoyed 67% best times with 37 brand new swims!!  Here are some notable results:

We will be hosting another Best Times Meet February 19-20th.  We will be having 10 & U morning sessions and 11 & Over afternoon sessions each day, depending on final participation numbers in each age group.  For our first time, we will be utilizing the Georgetown Recreation Center Natatorium that offers 8 competition lanes with a warm-up/warm-down lane.  This meet will be unclassified and open to all ages.  The meet is placed the weekend after BB Champs and the week before A Champs, and should be a great meet for our B & Under swimmers, or a last chance for BB swimmers achieving their A time.
Seating is limited, therefore, we will have similar participation restraints per session as we have at Southwestern.  Please submit your entries early to ensure participation.  I have included the meet invite for your review.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

11-19-10
We will need 3 large coolers with ice for the meet this weekend.  If you are coming to practice tomorrow, and you are willing to let us borrow a cooler, please let me know!! I should be at SU from 3:30-7PM on Friday preparing for the meet.

FUN/Adv: Start Clinic at Southwestern Friday, 5-6:15PM
Pre-Senior/Senior:  Practice at SU 5-6:30PM.

Adv+/Pre-Senior/Senior TeamsPreliminary meet entries for the Jingle Bell Splash are due MONDAY, November 22nd.  FINAL entries are due Wednesday, Nov 24th.  We are only attending Saturday and Sunday, not Friday.

FUN/Advanced TeamsPreliminary entries for the Temple Christmas Classic are due  Wednesday, Nov 24thFINAL entries due Dec 2nd.

Good luck at the Best Times Meet!!!
High School swimmers, good luck at TISCA!!

11-17-10
Wear your GREY shirts at the Best Times meet this Saturday.  The weather looks like it will be gorgeous again, so if you have pop-up tents, please bring them!  We'll set up our camp outside again.  Bring your lawnchairs and blankets!  Seating will be available on deck for our morning group, as it will be in the 60s as the meet starts, then should warm-up to the mid to high 70s by late morning.

If you did not participate in our Spooky Sprint, please complete an Assumption of Risk from and bring it to practice or to the meet.  All participants are required to submit this form prior to competition.

Attached, you will find an updated estimated timeline and psych sheets.  I will email heat sheets to you on Friday, and they will also be available for $2 at the concession stand the day of the meet.  Our team entries may be found here: http://www.sports-tek.com/TMOnline/index.asp?STRIPPED=AquaticsofGeorgetown (this site has been giving me some trouble, so keep trying the link if it doesn't work at first)

The 9&Under session warm-up is 8-8:20AM, meet starts at 9:15AM.  The 10&Over session warm-up looks like it will start at 1:00PM, but will begin immediately after the 9&U session completes, so be ready by 12:45PM.  10&O session should start around 2-2:20PM.
WE STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS!!!  There are several familes who are participating in the meet who have not yet volunteered.  Please see the volunteer sign-up sheet at the pool.  I am including a copy of the positions that may be available (I did not update this sheet with any new entries from yesterday, so this is updated as of Tuesday morning).
We must have help at the concessions stand, especially the last shift of the afternoon.  The shifts are not long, and you may leave to watch your swimmers races.  Also, safety marshalls are extremely important to ensure we have a safe and injury-free meet!  Timers are the least of our concern, as we are able to ask visiting teams to help with that.  Please email Coach Ben or I the position you wish to work if you are not able to make it to the pool.  Thank you, in advance!

We will be offering a Start Clinc this Friday at Southwestern (NOT the Rec Center) 5-6:15PM for FUNdamental and Advanced TeamsIf you have an ice chest we could borrow for concessions, please bring it to the SU pool on Friday, with ice if you are able to do so, to start cooling the drinks down the night before.

Let's get ready to get 100% BEST TIMES so Texas Gold will bring home the 1st Place team trophy!!!  Remember, swimmers win a medal for each time they improve from a previous swim.  If it is your very first time to swim an event, you will go to the awards table after your race to get a temporary tattoo!

GO GOLD!!!
11-11-10

I have attached the new training Nov-Dec calendar.  There are several changes to the schedule, most due to the closure of the Village Pool and affects Pre-Senior and Senior team practices.  The regular practice schedule is listed on the top of the calendar.  The only practices that are listed on the calendar are CHANGES to the schedule and will be highlighted in yellow.  If there is nothing listed on a particular day that pertains to your normal practice, then there is no change.

This Saturday, Masters and Pre-Senior will practice at the Rec Center 9-10:30AM.  Senior Team will join Texas Gold Wells Branch at their pool 7:45-10AM.

Next week, Senior Team will continue to practice at Wells Branch 5:15-7:30PM Mon-Thursday.  Pre-Senior Team will practice at the Rec Center 5:30-7PM.

Rec Center Pool Temperature:  Responding to a few complaints about the pool being too cold, the physical plant has increased the pool temperature at the Rec Center.  This morning, it was 84.8 degrees.  This temperature is just too hot for competitive training.  Please make sure you are drinking PLENTY of fluids during practice to replenish all that you are losing, as you are sweating a lot more than you know!!

The front desk at the Rec center logs in EVERY complaint, so you are welcome to have them log in yours, as a Rec Center member.  Please be courteous if you choose to lodge a complaint, it's not the fault of the person working the front desk

There will be a stroke and turn officials clinic held at UT during the Jingle Splash meet the weekend of December 3-5th.

ALSO, I need members who are willing to learn the Meet Manager software that runs the swim meets that we host.  There will be a clinic in Austin December 4th.

If you are interested in becoming a stroke and turn official OR learn the Meet Manager software, please RSVP to me ASAP!

Last weekend, we had three swim meets that our Texas Gold and AG Masters Swimmers were participating in.  We had OUTSTANDING results!!!

Our AG Masters team consisting of Philip Jones, Jason Bonick, Shawn Sabo, Shirley Bibles, Walter Koopmann, Karen Welcome, Kathy Goulding, Shawn Feather, Philip Houck, Jeannine Payne, and Genifer Howard dominated the meet, joined by Linda Callaway who trains with us, although she is affiliated with MOST in San Antonio!  AG Masters took first place with 878 points, followed by Swim Belton with 301 points, Nitro Swimming with 260 pts, Longhorn Aquatics with 120 pts, and Masters of South Texas 97pts (way to go Linda Callaway!!!)

Our Texas Gold swimmers were also at Belton that same morning, and enjoyed 53% best times with 19 brand new swims!!  Special congratulations to Alex Maresca who broke a 7 year old record in the 50 fly by over a second with a time of 35.87!!  Here are some notable individual results:

11-10-10
Greetings Coaches, Entry Chairpersons, and Officials!

Thank you for your participation in our 2nd annual Best Times Turkey Meet on Saturday, November 20th at Southwestern!

We have had an enormous response for this meet, so we will need to split the meet into 2 sessions.  We will have a morning session for our 9 & Under swimmers, and an afternoon session for out 10 & Over swimmers.  There are right at 160 swimmers in each session, and the timeline is 3 hours for each session.

Warm-ups: We will have three 20 minute warm-up sessions beginning at 8:00AM for the 9&U session with meet start time at 9:15AM.  We will then have three 25 minute warm-up sessions beginning at 12:20PM (or immediately following the conclusion of the morning session) with a meet start time at 1:45PM (or 1 hour 25 min after the warm-up begins).  I will send specific warm-up assignments the week of the meet.  I have included a preliminary timeline for your review.

Officials:  We are in need of officials for this meet!  We have officials lined up for the morning session, but will need additional help for our afternoon session, as many have prior engagements to attend to that afternoon.  Please let me know if you are able to provide assistance!  Each volunteer official will receive a fun "Thank you" gift basket!

With the creation of the dual session meet, I had to create a new meet manager database, export and re-import your entries.  PLEASE VERIFY THAT ALL OF YOUR SWIMMERS ARE PROPERLY ENTERED.  I have attached an entry list for your review.

If the entry times in your original entry submission are outdated, send me an update this week.  All seed times in this meet must be the most current times for your swimmers.  New entries or changes to your entries will not be permitted in this update, as the database will be sent for SWIMS verification.  New entries will be treated as a deck entry the morning of the meet.
.
I have attached a copy of the current Assumption of Risk form required by the University.  The form listed on the meet invite is dated 2009-2010.  If you have already completed the old form, no problem!  Please bring the completed forms with you the day of the meet if you have not mailed them in.  Swimmers who participated in the Spooky Sprint do NOT need to submit an additional form.  Families with more than one swimmer may use a single form.
We are looking forward to a great meet, and a LOT of best times!!!
11-4-10
Good luck to all of our swimmers competing this weekend!!!  It will be a busy one!  Our FUNdamental and Advanced Team swimmers will be competing in Belton, our Advanced +, Pre-Senior, and Senior Team swimmers will be competing at UT, and our AG Masters will be competing in Belton after our Gold swimmers are finished!!  GOOD LUCK and SWIM FAST!!!

Here is the meet information for the COR "A" Meet in Dallas December 3-5th.  All swimmers (any age) with A times are encouraged to attend!!  This meet will be in place of the Jingle Bell Splash for you, I prefer that you do not swim in both meets.
http://ntswim.org/meetinfo/2010/101203_info_cor_a_winter_classic.pdf  Swimmers with 3 or more A times may swim any event 200yd or shorter, regardless if they have A times in those events or not.  I will forward hotel information soon.  Please respond if you are able to attend!!  Your best times are posted on <Team Stats> if you are not sure how many "A" times you have.

Preliminary Best Times Meet entries are posted to <Team Stats>.  Final entries are due Monday!  Most high school swimmers will be at TISCA that weekend, so we will be short on volunteers!  Your help will be greatly appreciated!  Additional entries or changes to your entries are due by Monday.  PLEASE REVIEW THESE ENTRIES!!!  I am not perfect, and I make mistakes, so please review the preliminary draft of entries so we may make corrections before its too late!

PRE-SENIOR & SENIOR PRACTICE CHANGES NOVEMBER 15-18th:
The Village Pool is being closed beginning November 12-21st for replastering, retiling, refilling, reheating, and chemical balancing.  If that sounds like a lot to do in 10 days, I agree, so there is a very good chance that it will be longer than anticipated.  Southwestern has extended an invitation to use their pool beginning at 8:30PM after their open swim, so that option has also been eliminated.  Aubrey with Texas Gold Wells Branch has offered us to join him at his pool.  HERE are directions to the Wells Branch Pool.  If you are not willing or able to make that drive, you will be able to join the Advanced Team practices at the Recreation Center 5:30-7:00PM.  Here are the changes to the practice schedule:

Saturday, November 13th Rec Center
Pre-Senior/Masters 8:45-10:30AM (the building does not open until 9AM, so we will stretch outside before we get in the building)
Senior 8:45-11:00AM

Mon-Thursday, Nov 15-18th Wells Branch
Pre-Senior 5:15-7:00PM
Senior 5:15-7:30PM

Friday no change (Rec Center 5-6:45PM)

Saturday, November 20th Rec Center
Pre-Senior/Masters 8:45-10:30AM
Senior 8:45-11:00AM

You will be receiving your monthly statement this evening.  If you wish to pay your balance with your online account, simply reply to that email and ask me to post to your credit card or eCheck.  Your online account will not automatically deduct any fees other than the monthly fees (if you have it set up to do that).  If you are writing a check to submit at the pool, please make it out to AQUATICS OF GEORGETOWN, not "Texas Gold."
10-31-10
Belton Masters Meet early entries are due TUESDAY, but entries will be accepted the day of the meet!!  Here is the entry form: http://www.swimbelton.com/docs/Nov6Masters.pdf  Complete this form and mail to the listed address with payment.  Otherwise, you may bring your form and payment with you the day of the meet, but arrive a little earlier to submit your form.
I have heard from at least 8 AG Masters swimmers who are attending, so it will be a great meet!!  It's a very low pressure meet, and is perfect for first time swimmers!

Here is an inspirational video that Linda forwarded.  It's a lovely reminder of why we do what we do!  http://www.vimeo.com/12799238

2011 Masters Nationals Qualifying Times are posted!! http://www.usms.org/comp/scnats11/nqt.pdf

I have attached an updated meet schedule, that includes several upcoming masters meets.

We will be hosting our second Texas Gold meet of the year at Southwestern on November 20th.  We could use some volunteers if you are available!  The meet will start after 10AM and will finish up around 2:30PM.  There will be a volunteer sign-up sheet at the Rec Center near the double exit doors by the bleachers.  We are also hosting a BIG meet (possibly at the Rec) Feb 19-20th, and will need LOTS of help then!  Thank you in advance!!

Below is a Texas Gold update, for those of you who like to stay in touch with the kiddos' swimming.

Congratulations to our 47 Texas Gold Georgetown swimmers who competed at the 2010 Spooky Sprint at Southwestern last weekend! We were at an AMAZING 84% best times!!! Here are some notable performance results:

WAY TO GO!!! All in all, we cleared nearly $3500!!! This profit will help cover our expenses through the holidays and beyond when membership income drops.

Everyone did a fantastic job this year, raising $1500 more than any other year!!! WAY TO GO GOLD!!

I have received notice from a couple of folks who are participating in the "make-up" splash-a-thon on Tuesday, November 2nd rather than opting for the Fundraiser Buy Out. Your swimmer will have a lane designated for them to swim as many laps as they are willing or able! Alternatively, they may participate in their normal practice and their coach will count the laps they swim.

I am now accepting entries for our November Best Times Meet at Southwestern Saturday, November 20th. The format for this meet is unlike traditional meets.  Each swimmer will earn a medal for achieving a best time in each event, rather than be awarded for their place in their age group. The team whose swimmers have the highest percentage of best times, wins the meet!  We have already received entries from teams in Waco, New Braunfels, and San Antonio! This is our second year to offer this meet format, and it has been really well received.

Spooky Sprint

I have attached some pertinent information about the Spooky Sprint meet this Sunday, including Warm-up Assignments, Timeline, and Psych Sheet.  We have advanced the warm-up time to safely accommodate everyone with an average of 10 swimmers per lane.  Texas Gold will be warming up 8:30-8:55AM.  The meet will begin at 10:20AM.  We will be implementing fly-over starts in an attempt to beat our timeline.  This means that swimmers will stay in the water after their race until the following heat has started.  They will "fly over" you (except backstroke and 25yd events).

We still need volunteers!!!  Please sign up at the Recreation Center Pool.  The sign-up sheet is near the emergency exit doors next to the bleachers.  If you are unable to make it to the pool to sign up, please email Coach Ben (ben@swimgeorgetown.com) or I and we will put your name down for you.

All swimmers MUST submit a completed Assumption of Risk Form in order to compete.  I have attached this form for your convenience if you have not already completed one.  Please drop off your copy at the pool, or submit it to the Check In Desk at the meet.  Swimmers without this form will not be allowed to compete

We encourage families to carpool, as there is limited parking since Southwestern is currently in session.  Directions to Southwestern University's Walzel Natatorium may be found here: http://www.swimgeorgetown.com/html/facilities.html.  Seating is also limited, so we kindly ask spectators to keep their personal belongings on their person.

Heat sheets will be emailed to Texas Gold Georgetown members free of charge on Friday, and will also be available for purchase at concessions on the day of the meet for $2.  Spectators will NOT be allowed on the pool deck during the course of the meet.

River Oak Photography will be on site taking "heat reservations" for action shots of your swimmers.  Please see Jim at his table out front to reserve your heat.  He will then take action photos of your swimmer throughout a race you reserved.
After our team warm-up ends at 8:40AM, we will be taking an informal team photo, so please quickly dry off and be outside by 9AM.  Wear your BLACK team t-shirts!

Texas Gold swimmers will be sitting OUTSIDE this year, as we have a very full meet and we need to make space for our visiting teams.  The Georgetown Aquadillos is generously letting us borrow 8 pop-up tents to set up our camp.  If you have a pop-up tent, please bring it!  Also bring lawn chairs, blankets and warm clothing.

We also need large coolers for our concessions.  If you have one we could borrow, please bring it to the Village Pool on Saturday morning before 10AM, or at Friday's Start Clinic at the Rec Center.  Make sure you have put your name on it!

We are looking forward to a great meet!
10-18-10
Please sign up for a volunteer position at the Spooky Sprint!!  The sign-up sheet is located near the emergency exit by the bleachers at the Rec Center Pool.

Since we have such a large meet, Texas Gold will set up camp OUTSIDE on the campus grounds rather than on the pool deck.  At least 8 pop-up tents will be delivered Sunday morning, and we will need lots of help getting them set up!  Our team will be warming up at 8:10AM, so please arrive at 7:45AM to start getting those set up.  Bring your lawnchairs, blankets, and warm clothes!  It should be a warm afternoon, but the morning may be a little chilly!

We will have an informal TEAM PHOTO at 9AM after our warm-up.  Please wear your BLACK team t-shirts!

River Oak Photography will be on site at the meet taking action shots!  Sign up before or during the meet to "reserve" a heat for him to snap some action shots of your swimmer.  Prices are reasonable, and he will have a sign up booth near the concession stand.  http://riveroakphotography.com/

Splash-a-thon funds are due Wednesday!  For those of you earning $100 or more per swimmer, please get your Texas Gold Beach towel!  There will be some delivered to the pool Tuesday morning.  Splash-a-thon winners will be announced Friday!!  Prizes include 2 Nintendo DS Lite systems and a Texas Gold Speedo Sonic warm-up set!
If you are purchasing the $40 Fundraising Buy-Out option, it will be added to your account on October 31st, but it will not be automatically charged to your online account.  I will only charge your credit card or eCheck with your confirmation, otherwise you may submit separate payment.
Some of  you expressed interest in an alternative Splash-a-thon to get some more time to prepare.  If your swimmer is currently gathering pledges or donations for an additional splash-a-thon, they may declare to their coach that they will be swimming laps for their fundraiser on Tuesday, November 2nd and we will have a lane for them to swim their laps!  If you wish to take advantage of this option rather than the Fundraiser Buy-Out option, please respond to me by Wednesday.

UT has not yet posted the meet information for their meet, so I am unable to prepare a preliminary draft of our entries.  I will forward that as soon as I am able.

We will be offering another Start Clinic for all FUNdamental and Advanced Team members at the Rec on Friday 5-6:15PM.  This is not required.

I will have shirts and caps available at practice today, and at the meet.  Please wear the appropriate color on each day you attend.  All GOLD swimmers will be wearing swim caps during your races.  Also, I have ordered several extra warm-up sets in case anyone would like one.  Full sets are $100 and embroidered jacket without pants is $70.  I only have a few sizes available, but if you want one that I don't have in stock, we can order it.

Let's get ready to swim FAST!!!  GO GOLD!!
10-13-10
We have an extremely popular Spooky Sprint meet this year, with nearly 240 swimmers visiting as far away as Waco and Houston!!  The timeline will be just under 5 hours, but we are working with our officials to help speed up the meet, and hopefully will be able to reduce it 4.5hrs or less.  We will need your help to run this meet!!  I have attached a copy of the volunteer sign up sheet.  This will be posted at the Rec Center Thursday morning, so please sign up at your earliest convenience!!

Attached you will find an updated October calendar.  Please replace your old calendar!

Adv+, Pre-Senior, Senior Teams:  Preliminary entries for the UT November meet are due today.  Meet info has not been posted, but here is the event flier (dates listed are incorrect, it should be Nov 5-7th.: http://www.utexas.edu/longhornaquatics/meets/documents/11NovUnclassified.pdf

Splash-a-thon funds are due Wednesday, October 20th.  Grand Prize winners will be announced Friday, October 22nd!!

Championship Meet Format CHANGE:  The format for our championship meets in South Texas Swimming have changed!  Rather than having STAGS and Junior Olympics championship meets, South Texas Swimming will be hosting 3 championship meets based on your achievement of a NATIONAL TIME STANDARD.  There will be a "B" Champs, "BB" Champs, and "A" Champs meets.  See <Competitive Swimming> in our handbook for a brief explanation of time standards.  Time Standards may be found here: http://www.swimgeorgetown.com/standards/2012MotivationalTimes-Top16.pdf
Unlike the unclassified meets we will be attending and hosting over the next few months, the championship meet format offers a preliminary session where all qualifiers will compete.  The top 8 to 16 swimmers from the Preliminary session will be invited back that evening for the Finals session, where you will compete for your final place in the championship meet.  The goal is to qualify for the next meet by achieving the next higher time standard.  ex) You have achieved a B time in the 50 free at an unclassified meet during the season.  This qualifies you to swim the 50 free at the "B" Champs meet.  Your goal is to get a BB time or better so you may participate in the next higher level meet.  At the "B" Champs meet, you may only swim events you have achieved the B time standard, and so on.
For 14&Under swimmers, TAGS will be the next level higher than "A" champs, then all ages for Sectionals, 18&U Junior Nationals, all ages Senior Nationals, Olympic Trials, and then the ultimate swim meet, THE OLYMPICS!!

I have attached the updated meet schedule for our 2010-2011 swim season.  Our final home meet was forced to change dates due to the placement of the "B" Champs meet.  I have tentatively set that meet for February.

2010-2011 Time standards have been updated:
TAGS - still pending

FUN/Adv Teams: Time Trials 5-7PM today!

FUNDAMENTAL & ADVANCED TEAMS:

TIME TRIALS TODAY!!  All Fundamental and Advanced Team members have time trials today!!  Time trials will be held at the Rec 5-7PMThis is IN PLACE of your regularly scheduled practices for today, but is NOT required.

I am working on updating your entries for the Spooky Sprint, and they will be posted HERE (posted on <TEAM STATS> which may be found on our <MEET INFO> webpage) later this afternoonAdditons, scratches, and changes are due no later than TUESDAY, OCTOBER 12th

I am still accepting orders for custom team necklaces for $25.  Please get me your orders by FRIDAY!  (this is not a fundraiser, as Aquatics of Georgetown does not receive any proceeds, but please don't let that discourage you if you like them!)  I have attached a sample photo, but it can have any text, color, or graphic if you'd like one for another sport or team.

Thank you for all of your fundraising ideas!!  I am overwhelmed by the level of support you have expressed, especially as most of you are so new to this program (this email is specific to the FUNdamental and Advanced Teams).  I am humbled.

There are several of you who personally know the city officials directly involved with the issuance of our rates, and have expressed interest in visiting with them concerning our position.  I would like to see how these discussions go before moving forward with a writing campaign.  But hold on to those pens, we may need them!!

I have a long list of your emails to reply to, and I will reply to you all!!  There are a few immediate tasks I must tend to, including preparing our updated team entries for the Spooky Sprint and processing of an overwhelmingly popular response from visiting teams to attend our Spooky Sprint.  This will generate GREAT revenue for our team this year!!

The idea of offering an additional fundraiser in the near future rather than requiring the Fundraiser Buy Out at the end of this month was received quite well.  We have always offered a Splash-a-thon rather than selling junk food or other material items, mainly because it is a physical activity for the kiddos that directly correlates with their sport, and they can set their own goals and strive to reach them.  We have historically hosted our fundraiser early in the season when our membership numbers are at its peak, rather than waiting later in the season when membership has dropped 20-30%.

It has also been suggested we have a team meeting, which is a great idea!  I will get back with you ASAP!  I think having one prior to the Spooky Sprint would be ideal.
10-5-10
Masters and Senior Team:  We will have practice 6:30-8:00AM this Saturday at the Village Pool before the Splash-a-thon.

FUNdamental/Advanced Teams:
Preliminary meet entries for the Spooky Sprint on Sunday, Oct 24th are due TODAY!!!  Drop off your entry form at the pool at practice today, or email your entries to Coach Dale.  If you miss it tonight, NO WORRIES!!  You will have until October 12th before the FINAL entries will be cut off, but you must email your entries to Coach Dale, do not drop a form off at the pool after the preliminary deadlineI must have every new swimmer registered with USAS BY OCTOBER 12th, and this process can take up to a week, so EMAIL me your birth certificates ASAP if you have not already done so.

I am making my final preparations to your detailed October statements before sending them out.  PLEASE BEAR WITH ME!  Families with multiple swimmers are still having issues with the online system, as well as some other issues.  I will be turning off the THRIVA online system for everyone NOT paying by credit card or eCheck on this system, so if you are getting automatic drafts or paying by your online account I will leave it active.  Everyone else is paying by check, cash, or PayPal.  If you wish to to reactivate it, please let me know by simply replying to the statement that is emailed to you.  If you have a credit card on file, I will be able to use that if you wish.  Do not hesitate to ask me for any clarification, or if you see any errors on your statement!!

Don't forget that the Splash-a-Thon is THIS Saturday!!  You are not required to participate, however, each GOLD swimmer is responsible for raising a minimum of $40, otherwise, you will submit a $40 Fundraiser Buy-Out.  This will automatically be added to your account on October 31st should you not submit Splash-a-thon funds by the due date of October 19thGrand prizes will be announced October 21st.  AG Masters are more than welcome to participate and be eligible for prizes!

There are lots of GREAT prizes, such as 2 Nintendo DS Lite systems, a Texas Gold Speedo Sonic warm-up set, a Texas Gold Speedo Pro-Backback, equipment bag, goggles, keychains, Sammy towels, swim braceletes, video games, movies, and more!!  Light snacks and beverages will be provided!  All you need to bring is someone to count your laps, suit and goggles!
9-30-10
Here comes October, ready or not!!

ONLINE ACCOUNT MEMBERS:  I have made every effort to correct the automatic email notices generated by the Thriva system.  Please let me know if there are any errors with your statement or if I failed to include some extra gear you may have purchased.  If you are not signed up for automatic withdrawal, you will have an opportunity to make an online payment with credit card of eCheck once you receive the "payment due email."  Otherwise you may simply drop off a check in our black lockbox at the pool or mail payments to 1005A S. Mays in Round Rock, 78664.  Please make checks out to AQUATICS OF GEORGETOWN (not Texas Gold).

For those of you who do not have online accounts, I will email you a bill this weekend.  If you would like to create an online account, let me know and I will take care of that for you.

I have prepared a tentative calendar for October.  Print a copy for your fridge!!

Spooky Sprint entries for 14 & Under FUNdamental and Advanced Teams are due Tuesday, final entries are due October 12th.  Pre-Senior swimmers may also participate.  I will forward to you a volunteer sign-up sheet for this meet.  We are hosting this meet at Southwestern and we will need YOUR help to run it!  These meets are a major part of our fundraising efforts!!

If you are new to USA Swimming and have not submitted your birth certificate, please do that ASAP!  Email is preferred.

Splash-a-thon is Saturday, October 9th!!  Each swimmer earning $100 or more will win a Texas Gold Beach Towel, and the swimmer earning the most, will win their choice of a Nintendo DS lite system or a Texas Gold Speedo Sonic warm-up set!!  The swimmer who ends up with the most laps will win a Texas Gold logo Speedo Pro-Backback!  There are many other participation prizes that swimmers will be eligible to win for various age groups!

FUN/Advanced Teams:  We will be combining both practices at the Recreation Center on Thursday, October 7th for an informal time trial.  We will swim from 5-7PM, having each swimmer swim several races.  Details to follow!!

Senior Team:  Beginning this Saturday, your afternoon and Saturday practices will be 2 hours plus your stretching routine.
I am scheduling your morning practices next week for Tues/Thurs instead of Mon/Wed as a test run.  We'll see how it goes for future morning practices.  On Friday, October 8th, there is no school, so you will have a later practice 7-9:15AM.  On Monday, Oct 11th, we do not have morning practice, but we will have a make-up on Tuesday morning.

GO GOLD & AG Masters!!!!

The administrators at Southwestern University notified me today that we will not be able to host our October meet on Saturday, Oct 23rd.  We have had to change the date of our Spooky Sprint Meet to Sunday, October 24th.  I understand that this is not an ideal day, but we are very limited on our options this late in the game.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

The Georgetown Recreation has posted signs that the pool will be closed Friday, Sept. 24th for a high school swim meet.  The meet does not start until 9AM and concludes early afternoon, so I do not see that it should affect our practice times.  However, if the pool is, in fact, closed all day we will have our regularly scheduled Friday morning and afternoon practices at the Georgetown Village Pool.  Please keep an eye open for next week's update on those practices for Friday.

Have a great weekend, and I hope to see everyone at the Shortcourse Kick-off Party next Saturday!!!
9-8-10
We are planning on offering practices this afternoon.  Any changes to that will be announced on Twitter & Facebook, which will immediately be posted on the Home Page of our website.

Lane Four Swim Shop will be available today at the Rec from 4:30-6PM.  If you ordered a logo team swim suit at registration, you may pick it up at this time.

PRE-SENIOR/SENIOR TEAMS: We will have a meeting this Saturday at the Village Pool prior to practice.  Please arrive by 7:45AM.  Everyone will need to complete their goal sheet in preparation for this meeting, if you have not already submitted one.  Please review this presentation on how to properly complete your goal sheet.
REMINDER:  Everyone entering the Rec Center building must present their Rec Center ID to the front desk.  If you are not a member of the Rec Center, they will print you an ID for "Swim Team" use.  Parents, please introduce yourselves as a "swim team parent" if you are planning on entering the building and you do not have a membership ID.  The front desk staff are only doing their job by requesting identification for everyone entering the facility, so please comply with their requests.

GOLD Members:  NEW TO USA SWIMMINGIf this is your first USA Swimming team membership, please provide me with a copy of your swimmer's birth certificate in order to complete their membership with USA Swimming.  Birth Certificates are used to confirm each swimmer's age, and are destroyed after verification by the South Texas Swimming registrar.  Summer league swimming, unfortunately, is not an affiliate of USAS.
AG Masters Members:  NEW TO USMS?  You will need to register online in order to complete your USMS registration.  ALL AG Masters swimmers MUST be registered with USMS in order to participate, regardless of your intent to compete.  Register HERE.  Not sure if you are registered?  Here is a list of all currently USMS registered AG Masters swimmers: https://www.clubassistant.com/club/usms_members.cfm?club=AGM

GO GOLD and AGM!!
9-5-10
Greetings GOLD/AG Masters Teams!!

Practices will begin TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7th!!!  I have attached an updated September calendar that lists the regular schedule on the top, and if there are changes to a particular day, those changes will be highlighted and listed on that specific day.

I have attached our 2010 shortcourse preliminary meet schedule for your review.  The South Texas Swimming coaches will be meeting the first weekend in October to finalize the meet schedule for the remainder of the shortcourse season, and I will forward this to you once it is complete.

A series of thunderstorms are predicted for this upcoming week.  Although the Recreation Center Pool is indoor, the pumps are located outdoors.  Therefore, the pool will be closed if there is lightening detected.  All GOLD Teams WILL meet on Tuesday, regardless if we are able to swim or not.  In the event we do cancel practice, I will "tweet" the cancellation, which will send you notification if you are following us on Twitter, and it will immediately post to the Home Page on our website as well as update our Facebook page.  Additionally, you may call the AG Hotline for weekly practice updates at 512-246-7491.

FUNdamental/Advanced Teams:  Coach Ben will be offering a limited number of private lessons throughout the season.  He will be offering 2 sessions per week on Tuesdays, 7-7:30PM and 7:30-8PM.  Private lessons will cost $30 per session payable directly to Ben, and you will be limited to 2 sessions per month, unless there are additional openings.  To schedule a session, please see Coach Ben's sign-up book at practice.

Everyone should have received a Welcome! email that includes important information concerning practices.  If you have not received this email, please let me know!
I have not been able to reach a Thriva representative, so these online statements will continue to indicate you have a "past due," although that is NOT the case.  Information concerning this and your other billing options have been posted to <What's New> webpage.

Mark your calendars!  We will be hosting our Season Kick-off party for all GOLD and AG Masters Team members on Saturday, September 25th!  Details to follow!!

Lane Four SwimShop will be at the Rec Center on Wednesday 4:30-6PM in case you need to pick up some training gear.

GO GOLD & AGM!!!
9-1-10
GOLD/AG Masters Team Members:

First, I want to thank you for your patience as I learn the new online Thriva/Active Network billing system!  It is supposed to help streamline our registration process...

Second, I want to apologize for the wording on the "Subsciption" email you received today generated by the online Thriva system.  Your account is NOT past due, as it indicates.  And I also apologize for separate emails for each swimmer, I will see if it is possible to consolidate the notices.

If you registered and submitted payment online with Thriva, you did not pay for September's training fees at that timeThe Thriva online system does not invoice you for the training fees until the month begins, therefore, you will have a balance for the training fees at the first of each month.  At the time you registered, you were invoiced for the team registration fee, the USA fee, and any gear you may have purchased.

Some of you did not register online and still are receiving email notices from the Thriva system.  This is my error, and I will get that corrected as well.

The statement I sent you yesterday should indicate the correct up-to-date registration and training fees, with the exception of some extra gear purchases you may have purchased last Saturday (there were very few, but I still have not added those yet).  This QuickBooks generated statement (that you received yesterday) is what we have used in the past, and will continue to be our main billing system.  If this statement needs adjusting, please let me know!

I intend on turning off the Thriva system-generated emails.  I will need to get with the Thriva reps to see what options we have.  You will be welcome to continue the auto-billing with Thriva, where it will automatically draft the training fees from your credit card or eCheck.  I will credit these payments to my QuickBooks account for you once I receive notice of payment.  I will also be able to add extra gear purchases, meet fees, or any offline expenses to your Thriva account so you may simply get that balance drafted.

If you choose not to have your payments automatically drafted but wish to manually pay through Thriva with your credit card or eCheck, respond to the emailed statement that you wish to pay on your Thriva account and I will get it updated.

As always, you are welcome to pay with check, cash, or PayPal (you may send a payment to dale@swimgeorgetown).  Payments may be dropped off at the pool.

I have received many email inquiries from you, and I will respond to each of you by the end of this week if I have not answered your question with this Update.

Practices will begin Tuesday, September 7th!!  I will send out another update by this weekend that will include some reminders, a preliminary 2010 meet schedule, and other team updates.

Thank you, again, for your patience and support!!!

Welcome to Texas Gold Swimming!!

If you are receiving this email, you have registered a swimmer(s) with Aquatics of Georgetown for our 2010-2011 Shortcourse Swim Season, under the Texas Gold age group swim team

If you registered using our new online Thriva/Active Network system, you have set up an online account.  You are not required to use this account for your future payments, but you will have the option to set up automatic billing to pay by credit card or eCheck.  This online account may not reflect additional fees and gear ordered offline.  All members will receive an emailed monthly statement, separate from your online account, to the email address you submitted at registration.  If this emailed statement does not reflect the fees on your online account, please report the error to me at dale@swimgeorgetown.com.

If you choose not to utilize the online system for payments, you may simply:

  • drop off checks made out to Aquatics of Georgetown in the Payment Box at the pools (located at the Rec bleachers, not the front desk),
  • send payment by PayPal to dale@swimgeorgetown.com (please add 2.2% of your balance to cover PayPal fees), or
  • mail your payment to my office at:

We have many modes of communication.  Email is our most detailed mode, and all emailed updates are posted on our <What's New> webpage shortly after being sent out (24-48hrs).  Emergency updates, such as practice cancellations or changes, due dates, and other brief announcements will be sent out on Twitter and Facebook, which in turn is immediately posted to the <Home Page> on our website's "Twitter Widget."  For you super-technically inclined folks, you may choose to "follow" us on Twitter and get these brief updates sent to your cell phone.  Visit www.twitter.com/swimgeorgetown  to "follow" us & Facebook www.facebook.com/SwimGeorgetown to become "friends."

Weekly practice schedules and sudden changes are also posted on the AG Hotline at 512-246-7491.

I encourage you to scroll through the 2010-2011 AG Handbook, if you have not already done so.  General information on practices, meets, billing, and general care is available here.

Practices for our new short course season will begin Tuesday, September 7th!!!

Our current calendaris available, and is updated monthly.  September's calendar will be posted soon, but I will need to update September's calendar, as meet dates and other events have not yet been finalized.  You will find important due dates, general information, and team events listed here.  Print a copy out for your fridge!

Here is a list of required and optional equipment for your participation with our programs: Texas Gold & AG Masters

Equipment may be acquired at Lane Four SwimShop, they are physically located HERE and are available online at http://www.lane4swim.com/

For your convenience, Lane Four SwimShop will be in Georgetown selling Texas Gold team gear at our official registration at the Georgetown Rec Center on Saturday, August 28th 9-11:00AM, and you may also pick up any gear you may have ordered or earned for our July Promo (t-shirts/caps/window decals/water bottles) at this time.   I will also schedule a day during our first week of practice for additional convenient purchases in Georgetown.  You are not required to attend this event if you have submitted your registration.  Lane Four SwimShop has been a strong supporter of our program since we began in 2001Thank you, Deborah and Hector at Lane Four for your continued support!!

If you are concerned about the proper placement of your swimmer, or are unsure of his/her proper placement, you are encouraged to bring your swimmer(s) for a very brief evaluation on August 28th from 9-11AM at the Recreation Center.  If you are new to our program, a list of best times would be helpful to our coaching staff.

As a member of Aquatics of Georgetown, you are not required to obtain a membership with the Georgetown Recreation Center, however, membership is encouraged.  Rec Center membership rates may be found HERE.  All users of the Recreation Center, members or not, must adhere to the Rec Center RULES

Although Aquatics of Georgetown members are not required to obtain a membership, all GOLD & AG Masters swimmers must obtain an identification card from the front desk, and this ID card must be displayed upon each entry

Additonally, all swimmers are required to rinse off prior to entering the pool.

Lockers are available for patrons in the dressing rooms.  DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING IN THE LOCKER ROOMS WITHOUT SECURING THEM.

Your 2009-2010 Coaching Staff is returning for our new season!!

We are developing a preliminary tentative meet schedule, and will post it during our first week of practices.  A more detailed meet schedule will be posted after the annual South Texas HOD meeting in early October, where local teams will bid on championship meet dates and locations.

Again, welcome!  Please do not hesitate to send me or any other coach an email with any questions you may have!!  We are all excited to get the new season underway!!

GO GOLD!!

8-21-10
Attached, you will find a preliminary calendar for September, which indicates the changes in next week's practices.  I estimated meet dates in October for the meet we host at SU and the first UT meet, as none have been set, so I will need to update entry due dates for those in a few weeks as well as our Splash-a-thon.

There are plans being formulated for an AG Masters Kick-off party in late September, and I would like some help planning a GOLD kick-off party.  Please let me know if you are interested!

I apologize for the delay in reporting our meet results for our recent championship meets.  I will get those updates sent out early next week.  Results have been posted on our Team Stats, however.

REMINDER:  All swimmers (AG Masters and GOLD) will need to register for our upcoming season if you plan on continuing with our program, which begins September 7th.  We are hosting our registration at the Rec Center August 28th, 9-11AM.  This is also the same day as our LAST practice for the summer season.  Alternatively, you may now register ONLINE (which is preferred, as I am able to simply import all the data you type in rather than having to re-enter all of your information.  You do not have to pay online even if you process your registration online.)

8-6-10

Attached you will find our training calendar for August, finishing up our longcourse season!!!

Good luck to Junior Olympic participants who will be competing at the West Austin Athletic Complex this weekend!  Alex Maresca, Kory Maresca, and Ashley Udelhofen all swam best times this afternoon and great first time swims, paving the way for a fantastic meet ahead!!

Calvin Fusilier will be headed to Irvine, California on Sunday to compete at the 2010 Longcourse Junior National Championships!!  You will be able to catch the Junior's swims on www.SwimNetwork.com, their widget is posted on our website.  Read about Junior's HERE.  Good luck Calvin!!

I will also be headed to California, and will be out town all next week.  Coach David will be taking the helm for our evening practices, and Coach Cameron, previous AG swimmer and recent UT Permian Basin graduate, will be coaching our morning sessions.  Congratulations to Coach Cameron who just accepted an offer from Delta State Swimming to be a graduate assistant coach for their program!!

We will host our official registration at the Georgetown Recreation Center on Saturday, August 28th from 9-11AM.  Lane Four Swim Shop will be available for gear purchases.  You may also pick up any free goodies owed to you if you pre-registered last month, or any other goods you purchased through the online registration.  The online registration will continue to be available at any time, or you may mail in your registration forms to our Round Rock office.

Let's finish up our Longcourse Season with a big bang!!  GO GOLD!!!!

Please read the URGENT notice listed below concerning Senior Championships.  The meet format has CHANGED and they have added an additional day of competition, which means several of you will need to compete on Thursday morning.  The event order has completely been switched around.
I am waiting to receive the updated events file to prepare the revision of our entries.  If you are unable to compete in your race because of this change, please let me know ASAP.  They are accepting changes in entrieswithout penalty due to the sudden format change.  I must submit the Georgetown team entries to Aubrey on Sunday night so he may resubmit the entire Texas Gold team entry list by noon on Monday.  If I do NOT hear from you in the next few days, I will assume that you are able to compete in the same events.

Thank you for your patience and understanding!

I am requesting that the Head Coach from each team send me a confirmation e-mail that you have received this notice and are aware of the changes.
The published meet format for Senior Champs is being changed due to the unprecedented number of entries, which have been received.  The meet is being expanded from a three day format to a four day format and will now commence at 8:30 AM on Thursday, July 8th.  (7:00 AM warm-ups).   Finals  will start at 5:00 p.m., with warm-up starting at 4:00 p.m.

The following events will now be contested on Thursday:   200 Breast, 100 Back and 400 IM.  An additional adjustment is being made in that the girls 1500 Free is being moved to Saturday.

A new meet event file is currently being created by the meet host and will be posted on both the South Texas Swimming website and on the AAAA website later today.  Recognizing that the new format may change some of your swimmers’ desired events and also necessitates new event numbers, all teams are asked to use the updated events file to re-create your entries to accommodate this meet format change.

All updated entries must be submitted by  noon, Monday, July 5, 2010

JULY: I am so sorry for the ridiculous delay in getting you the July training calendar.  It has been a serious battle getting this ironed out, as our facility options continue to change.  I have attached the July calendar, and it is as colorful as the weather radar for Hurricane Alex.  It is a confusing calendar, so I am going to be sending you weekly schedules at the beginning of every week to try to alleviate some of the confusion.  PLEASE print this calendar and post somewhere so you can easily review it.  Afternoon groups for Masters and Advanced are not seeing many changes, but our morning groups are all over the place.  I will also have the AG Hotline (246-7491) updated each week with our practice schedule, plus I'll post what I can fit into the Twitter Widget on the Home Page of our website.
I am planning on sending out monthly statements later this evening, so please let me know if there are any changes to your membership for July.

Calendar Explanation:  On the calendar, as always, I list the "regular" schedule at the very top.  If there is a deviation from this "regular" schedule for a particular practice group on a specific day, I will list that change on that day and highlight it in yellow.  If a practice group is not listed on a specific day, then you will follow the regular schedule listed on top.  For instance, Tuesdays , our "regular" practice schedule is at Williams Dr for Pre-Senior/Masters 7:15-9AM, Senior 7:15-9:30AM, and then at the Rec Center in the afternoons Advanced 4:45-6:15/Masters 6-7:30PM.  On Tuesday, July 6th, we have no morning practices, but we are having a practice at Southwestern for Pre-Senior 4:15-6/Senior 4:15-6:30PM, which is highlighted in yellow.  I did not list anything about the Advanced and Masters practices at Rec, because there is no change, so you will follow the "regular" schedule.

STAGS/Senior Champs Team Members: Congratulations to our 2010 Longcourse STAGS and Senior Championship Team Members: Tiffany Souza, Hannah Pierce, Autumn Allen, Jessica Burgess, Jansen Brown, Sam Doocy, Beau Fusilier, Calvin Fusilier, Emily Hill, Galen Palmore, Rachael Rodriguez, and Madison Smith!  They will be competing in the South Texas Swimming championships in San Antonio next weekend!  Your practices most likely will be no longer than an hour and a half for the remainder of the summer, as you begin your taper!!  There is no designated team hotel, but there are generally some good deals on Priceline or hotwire.com.

JUNIOR OLYMPICS:  Our 2010 Longcourse Junior Olympics Championships will be held in West Austin on August 7-8th.  Preliminary entries are due July 19th, final entries are due July 23rd.  All swimmers are eligible to swim any event in which they do NOT have a STAGS or Senior Champs qualifying time.  Meet Info: http://swimgeorgetown.com/JO_0810_info.doc
Summer league swimmers:  All summer league swimmers who will be returning to our GOLD Advanced Team after the conclusion of the summer league season are welcome to compete in JO's.  Training fees will be $60 for the three week period July 19-August 5th.

August Training:  After Junior Olympics August 8th, we will be reducing our practice schedules.  We will continue our morning practices Mon/Wed/Fri 5:45-7:30AM and Saturdays 7:45-9:30AM at Williams Dr, and offer several evening practice sessions at the Recreation Center 6-7:30PM, pending approval.  I will get you a specific finalized schedule as soon as I am able.

MASTERS ZONE CHAMPIONSHIPS:  Masters Zones will be held in Southlake July 23-25th.  Entries are due Tuesday, July 13th.  Entry form: http://www.damswim.com/docs/2010_zone_masters_entryv2.pdf

6-28-10
Attached, you will find details concerning the Texas Open this weekend.  The warm-up assignments are not correct, so I will forward that once I receive it.  Please read through all materials.

I will forward more specific details concerning warm-up times and t-shirt colors later this week!  If you are scratching an event or day, please let me know if you haven't already doen so.

GO GOLD!!!

You are welcome to send additions, changes, and/or scratches through Saturday.  I will submit our final team entries Sunday at noon.

STAGS/Senior Champs team members; I do not want you to have a heavy load at the Texas Open, as STAGS and Senior Champs is the very next weekend.  I generally selected "off" events, or events that you may be close to a time standard, such as STAGS/SR Champs, TAGS, or Sectionals.
If you have not yet qualified for STAGS/Senior Champs or you are not participating in that meet, then I encourage you to swim your best events at the Texas Open, limit 3 per session.

Please review the entries I have prepared and let me know if you wish to swim something else or something different.  ALL GOLD swimmers are encouraged to attend!

5-27-10
Attached you will find a
tentative training calendar for June.  I apologize for the prolonged delay.  I had a meeting with the City of Georgetown on Monday, and I was hoping that the results would have been more fruitful, but it does not appear that it will happen (I will send you an update on my failed negotiations with the city as soon as I am able).  Georgetown will not allow us to schedule any practices on Monday, May 31st, for cleaning/preparations, so we will have a make-up morning practice on Tuesday for Senior/Masters teams 5:30-7:15AM at Williams Dr, and we will have the same practice schedule in the afternoon on Tuesday for all teams as we have had in May. Our Summer Schedule will begin June 2nd.

Pre-Senior/Senior Schedule
We are still in a holding pattern for afternoons at Williams Dr, so our Pre-Senior and Senior Team practices are currently scheduled to be at Southwestern Mon & Wed 4:15-6/6:30PM and Fridays 3:15-5PM (you are OFF Tuesday/Thursdays).  Should we receive permission to swim at Williams Dr in the afternoons, we would swim Mondays at SU as we are currently scheduled, and swim at Williams Dr on Wed/Fridays (maybe Thursdays instead of Fridays?) 4:15-6/6:30PM.  I am well aware that this is not the schedule I gave you several months ago, and many of you have had to schedule summer work, so please let me know what your specific conflicts are so I can try and work around them as best as I am able.
Morning schedules are at Village Pool 7:15-9/9:30AM Mon-Thursday, Fridays at Williams Dr 6:30-8:45AM for Senior and 7:15-8:45AM for Pre-Senior. Saturdays are at Williams Dr 7:45-9:30/10AM.  Senior Team, you are welcome to join the masters group Mon/Wed/Fri 5:45-7:30AM if you have early morning obligations or engagements.  You must communicate with Carla and I when you need to miss a practice!!!
Senior Team:  We will have a mandatory team meeting at practice this Saturday at Williams Dr at 7:45AM!!

Masters Team
Georgetown has scheduled shallow and deep water aerobics at Williams Dr in the afternoons at 7PM, so we will not be able to swim here in the afternoons all summer.  I have scheduled evening practices at Rec Center Mon-Thurs 6-7:30PM.  Please forward your opinion on this particular time; too early or is it manageable?  I could possibly schedule it up to 30 minutes later, but I will probably not be able to make changes until June 15th, however.
Great news; you will now have 13 practice sessions to choose from each week!!  You will have a dedicated practice Mon/Wed/Fri at Village Pool 5:45-7:30AM and Mon-Thurs at Rec Center 6-7:30PM, and shared practices Mon-Thurs 7:15-9:00AM at Village, Fri 7:15-8:45AM at Williams and Saturdays at Williams Dr 7:45-9:30AM.

There is a masters meet in Belton on June 19th.  Entries are due June 15th.  Meet info: http://www.swimbelton.com/docs/June_19th_Masters_Meet.pdf

There is another masters meet in Dallas at SMU on June 26th-27th.  Entries are due to the host team by June 23rd.  Meet info: http://www.damswim.com/docs/2010_summermeet_info.pdf

Advanced Team
The Advanced Team is scheduled for Rec Center Mon-Thursdays 4:45-6:15PM.  Coach Ben will be returning as your coach on Wednesday!!

Dear Swim Team Families & Staff,

Swim Team Night at The Dell Diamond on Monday, June 21, 2010!  All Swim Team members, coaches and families will receive a discount on their ticket price on this evening.  The Express will take on the Omaha Royals, with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m., and the gates opening at 6:05 p.m.

Follow the directions on the order form to send back into the Express anytime between now and June 7.  We try to place teams sitting together (GOLD/AG Masters will be sitting Home Run Porch Seats) so the sooner your team sends in their forms, the better the chance of everyone sitting together.  NEW for 2010, you will also notice on the form the option to complete your order online with a special code.  If you choose to order this way, just follow the step-by-step instructions attached.  You must submit your order by mail, fax, or online by Monday, June 7th.

Your team will receive a group welcome on our state-of-the-art scoreboard in the middle of the third inning.  Also, keep in mind that the team with the most participants in Swim Team Night will be able to have a representative from their team throw out a first pitch.

We will have a pre-game Swim Team Parade.  All those wishing to participate will need to meet under the Dell Diamond jumbotron clock at 6:15 p.m

Please feel free to give me a call or send me an email should you have any questions.  Thank you for your time, and we look forward to seeing you out at the ballpark on June 21st!

Additionally, I have received some distrubing news from the city concerning our schedule this summer.  Some action from you may be required.  I am continuing to work through some major kinks that would prevent longcourse training, I will keep you posted.

Thank you for your continued support and patience!!

The AGM swimmers have spoken/voted:

Long Course Kickoff Party
Casual Backyard Weenie Roast
AGM swimmers + guest
Date:  Saturday, May 15th
Time:  6:00 PM
Place:  314 Rio Bravo Road (home of the backyard camp fire)

Linda will supply wieners, buns, paper goods, and ice tea.  It’s up to the rest of you to bring side dishes to share and other beverages you like.  I think Carla is bringing marshmallows so we can make S’mores.  We have some of those roasting skewers.  I have some tables & chairs out on my deck; but you may want to put a folding chair in your car just incase.

It’s helpful to know how many folks are coming.  Also, to avoid food duplications please email (reply all) what you are bringing.

5-5-10
We will have a special practice on Thursday for both FUNdamental and Advanced Teams.  Both practices will be combined and will meet 5-6:45/7ish at the Rec Center.  All members are welcome (even if you are taking May/summer off!)

Jo Williams is coordinating refreshments (thank you, Jo!!)

REMINDER:  This will be the LAST FUNdamental Team practice for the remainder of the summer.  Advanced Team practices will continue, but are moving to the Village Pool 5:15-6:45PM Mon-Thursday for the remainder of May beginning Monday, May 10th.

The meet information has finally been posted for the End of School Splash.  I must submit our team entries by tomorrow evening to ensure our participation.  I will enter everyone who participated in the Longcourse Kickoff in events of my choosing (and Coach Ben's) unless you are able to send me your preferences by tomorrow evening.  We will be able to make changes to these entries for the next week, so do not panic if I entered you and you are not able to attend.  Please let me know ASAP of the events you wish to swim, or if you are not able to attend one or all of the days of the meet.  Preliminary entries are due by 8PM on Monday, but I will enter everyone.  I must hear from you by Friday for final entries/changes/scratches!!  Here is the meet info: http://www.utexas.edu/longhornaquatics/meets/documents/2010EndofSchoolSplashMeetInfo_000.pdf

Let's get ready for our first Longcourse meet!!

4-27-10

Longcourse Kick Off:

Attached is the psych sheet and estimated timeline for this weekend. Please double check your swimmers, and let me know if there are any errors by this evening. Also please advise if there are any drops.
Also, as in previous meets, we ask that you let us know if any swimmer  will be scratching their events before the end of the day before they are scheduled to swim. Each session will be seeded the evening before, and this will help avoid empty lanes and help the time line.

Warm-up Times will be sent out later this week!

May/Summer Schedule
I have attached a TENTATIVE calendar for May.  We will keep our current schedule through May 8th.  I am planning on not using the Rec Center May 10-29th, but our schedule has NOT yet been approved.  We are scheduled to start out at Williams Dr for our morning practices May 10th, but it will be dependent on the pool temperature.
The afternoon practice times have changed a bit for Advanced and Masters beginning May 10th, so please read the calendar thoroughly.  I should be able to have this finalized this weekend or early next week.
We are also planning on a Welcome Longcourse! Party for our Texas Gold swimmers!!  I have tentatively set it for after practice on May 8th at the Village Pool, but I am flexible if anyone has suggestions or ideas that differ from that.

I would also like to start getting planning underway for an AG Masters longcourse kickoff party.  Would anyone like to please take this on?

If you are NOT continuing with Texas GOLD during May, please send notice if you have not already done so!  I will be preparing your monthly statements by early next week.  Also let me know if you are not going to continue, but wish to swim the week of May 3-6th.  Our LAST FUNdamental Team practice will be May 6th.  I encourage FUNdamental Team members to join a summer league team, such as www.Aquadillos.com, for the remainder of the summer, and come back and see us in September!

Preliminary entries for the End of School Splash at UT are due Thursday, although the meet information has yet to be posted.  I will forward this information as soon as I receive it.  All Texas GOLD swimmers are encouraged to participate!!  Summer league swimmers ARE permitted to participate in this meet!  This is the LAST USA Swimming event that is permitted for summer league swimmers ages 12&Under, and you may also continue to practice with us through that weekend without penalty.

Masters Zones Championships:
Congratulations to the Aquatics of Georgetown Masters Swim Team for placing 16th place at the 2010 Southern Zone Shortcourse Championships!

Let's especially congratulate those swimmers who had a PERFECT MEET!  Shirley Bibles, Joe Burke, Phil Houck, Shawn Feather, and Shawn Sabo dropped time in every event they swam!

Let's also give it up for everyone who placed in the TOP THREE in their age group in one or more of their events!  Ben Cumnock-Francois (2nd - 50 Back), Kathy Goulding (3rd - 100 I.M.), Dale Huggins (3rd - 50 Fly, 1st - 100 Breast, 3rd - 50 Free, 1st - 50 Breast, and 3rd - 100 Free), and the Women's 25+ 200 Medley Relay (1st with Gennifer Howard, Shawn Sabo, Kathy Goulding, and Shawn Feather).  All of these swimmer brought home hardware to show off!

Also participating were Linda Callaway and Colleen Holloway, who compete with MOST swim team out of San Antonio, but train with us. Linda earned 3rd in 400IM, 2nd in 200 fly, 3rd in the 200 free relay, 2nd in the 200 medley relay, and 3rd in the mixed 200 free relay.  Colleen's medal list included 1st in the 200 free relay & 200 medley relay, 2nd in the 200 breast & 50 back, 1st in the 200 medley relay, and won the mixed medley relay!

All in all AGM did very well in what was a fun and fast meet in Houston!  Once again, congratulations to all who participated!

The next Zones meet is the weekend of July 23rd in Southlake!!

5K and 10K Postal Masters Championships begin May 15th to go through September 15th, so get your distance training ready!!

Linda Callaway has invited any and all swimmers who are interested in Open Water training.  She is planning on swimming in Lake Georgetown on Mondays at 5:30PM through the end of May, and will plan accordingly once school lets out for future swims.  They started with an 18 minute swim yesterday, and will gradually increase their distance and time.  If interested, email Linda at linda@callaways.org.

The Lake Travis Triathlon is a great early season sprint distance race.  The 750 meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run triathlon will start at 9:00 on Sunday morning April 18th.  On Saturday the 17th, we'll have the swim course set up, and will hold a 1500 meter swim at 9:00, 750 meter swim at 10:00, and a 1.4 mile swim at 10:30.
There is no charge for the swims, other than the Travis County Park entrance fee of $10 per vehicle (did someone say "car pooling"?)

Both events are at Pace Bend Park.  The swims will be held in Mudd Cove.  Now that Lake Travis is full, Mudd cove is a great place to swim.  It has easy entrance and exit points, and is a boat free zone.  Water temperature is expected to be about 64 degrees.  The bike is on the 10K park road loop.  The run is on park trails.  To sign up for either the Lake Travis Triathlon or the open water swims, go to www.rbsportsllc.com

I have attached our April training calendar for your review.  It will be posted to the website shortly.

Preliminary entries for the Longcourse Kickoff at UT on April 30-May 2nd are due TUESDAY.  Final entries are due Friday.

Congratulations to Coach Tim, who will be heading the Georgetown Aquadillos for the upcoming summer league season!  Also, congratulations to Coach Ben who will be heading the Cedar Park Typhoons for their summer league season!  Summer league practices begin May 10th.

Our last practice for FUNdamental Team will be May 6th.  You do not need to send me notice that you are suspending your memberhsip past this date if you are on the FUNdamental Team, but you WILL need to send me notice for all other teams if you have not already done so.

Since summer league starts on May 10th, we will continue our regular schedule through the first week of May.  This extra week of practice will cost 1/4 your normal monthly fee if you are suspending your membership at that time.
For members continuing on with us for the summer, the monthly rates beginning in May are: Masters $60, Advanced Team $70, Pre-Senior $80, & Senior $90.  There are no longer commitment levels, so your practice sessions are unlimited!

In May, Coach Carla and I will be leading all of the practices.  Coach Ben will return for the Advanced Team in June.

Once the summer league season concludes, Advanced, Pre-Senior, and Senior team members who suspended their membership with us are welcome to return to GOLD to compete in the 2010 Summer Longcourse Junior Olympics held at West Austin Aquatic Club August 7-8th.

Meet Information has been posted for the 2010 Damon McCoy Longcourse Invitational held in Shreveport, LA June 11-13th.  Preliminary Entries are due May 11th. http://www.swimgeorgetown.com/DAMON_MCCOY_0610_info.doc

Here is the psych sheet:  http://www.asicampbell.com/SCZ-SC/usms_scz_sc_champ_psych-2010.pdf.pdf

I encourage all AGM swimmers to wear an AGM t-shirt!!  I will bring various sizes to the Rec Center on Monday afternoon, and I will bring some to the meet, as well as team caps (everyone will need a team cap!)

4-2-10
I am working on our April calendar and your statements, I apologize for the delay!  (I can't believe it's already APRIL!?!?)

I have attached the meet information for our first longcourse meet, which will be held at UT April 30-May 2nd.  The 12&Under sessions will be in the mornings, and the 13&Over sessions will be in the afternoons.  All Advanced team members are encouraged to attend!!  This will be a "Longcourse" meet, which means the pool will be set up as a 50 Meter pool, rather than a 25yd pool like what we are used to.  This means there are NO 25yd events.  So a 50M free will be one length, there are no flipturns.  A 100Meter free will be two lengths, so there is one flipturn, etc.  The 200M and longer events have qualifying times.  Please ask you coach, or email me if you have questions about your swimmer's ability to meet that Q time, if they wish to compete in a 200M or longer race.  Preliminary entries are due Tuesday, April 6th.  (Please EMAIL me your entries, rather than drop them off at the pool)  FINAL entries are due April 10th.  Please do NOT follow the entry instructions on the meet invite.

MAY UPDATE:
We will continue our regular schedule through May 8th.  Rather than ending the FUNdamental practices on April 29th as schedueld, we will offer one additional week for those of you preparing for summer league, which starts May 10th (I thought summer league would start May 3rd).  If you wish to participate for this extra week (all teams invited!), please email me!  It will cost 1/4 of your normal monthly training fee if you are suspending your membership for summer league.

ADVANCED TEAMYou are permitted to continue to swim GOLD, as per summer league rules, until your first summer league meet, which is May 29th.  So, technically, you would be able to swim GOLD for all of May in addition to your membership with summer league.  We will be offering one more longcourse meet at UT on May 21-23rd that summer league swimmers will be permitted to attend, should you choose to do so.

4-1-10
There has been some misinformation spreading concerning Friday morning's practice.  We will have practice tomorrow morning, as scheduled, at the Recreation Center 7:45-9:30AM for Pre-Senior, Senior, and MASTERS.  We will also have practice at the Village Pool on Saturday morning, 7:45-9:30AM for Pre-Senior/Masters, and 7:45-10AM for Senior Team.

Senior Team:  It is time for you to be consistent with your training!  We are gradually building on the yardage and will begin our 2 hours practices this Saturday.  High School practices are not sufficient substitutes for your training.  I encourage you to begin swimming several afternoon practices in addition to your high school practices, especially on days where you do very little, and perhaps do not have a morning practice.  This is the time to prepare your body for the upcoming longcourse season!

3-30-10

I have attached the relays that we were able to put together.  If you are not on a relay, and have completed your day, please get with your coach to make sure you are not needed to cover for a relay.

We will have Texas Gold 2010 Championship t-shirts (which are grey, and may be worn on Saturday) available at the meet.  The shirt reads "GOLD's SWYM" in the same font and with the logo of "GOLD'S GYM"

See you this weekend!!

Greetings Junior Olympic Swimmers!

Our last shortcourse meet of the year is quickly appoaching!!  There are several important notes to read through concerning the format of the meet.  Please read below and see the attachments.

We are assigned to provide timers during several sessions.  Please help to make sure that these positions are covered.

Please plan on arriving at least 15-20 minutes BEFORE our scheduled warm-up time.
Texas Gold Warm-up Times:
Saturday 8:20-8:50AM
Sunday 7:50-8:20AM

Campus Map (Natatorium is center, #31):
http://www.uiw.edu/map/index.htm

Directions:
The Barshop Natatorium is located on UIW’s Campus at 4301 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209. The pool is located on the West side of campus over the river bridge and on the right.

From 281 SOUTH – Turn Left onto Hildebrand, Turn Left at second stop light, Turn left at T. Follow road and merge left over the bridge, and Natatorium is first building on Right.

 A message from Jo Williams:

I will be planning little goodie bags for all the kids for JO's next week in San Antonio.  We've done this before and the kids really enjoy it....I was thinking if y'all just brought what you wanted to donate to my room on Friday night, or if your not staying at the hotel  just drop it by the pool next week.

I've got the bags and  bottles of water already purchased so whatever you'd like to add would be great.......food or something to keep them occupied (Gatorade, granola bars, power bars, crackers, fruit snacks, raisins, you know the usual snacks).   I believe we have 19 swimmers so far.

Thanx
Jo

Notes from the Meet Host:

Junior Olympics Central is going to be quite a large meet this year, as were both the North and the South Junior Olympic Meets.  Due to the building fire code, overall safety and general comfort, Streamline will be following the successful protocol of many other meets hosted around the nation.   As this is a quite different setup than what is familiar to South Texas parents and coaches, we need your support in promoting the benefits of this style meet and educating your parents on the procedures.

We have secured the UIW gymnasium, which is directly across the parking lot from the natatorium.  Each team will have designated areas in the gym and all spectator and team seating will be in the gym.  There will be mats on the floor of the gym and spectators are welcome to bring their own chairs to set up on the mats.  They are also free to use the stadium seating in the gymnasium.   Blankets and/or towels can be used on the mats for the swimmers to spread out and rest or socialize.  This arrangement will give everyone ample room to be relaxed in between their races and should provide a comfortable experience for everyone.  It also means that teams with late warm ups will not have to arrive early just to secure seating.   Concessions and Junior Olympic T-Shirts will be for sale in the gymnasium.  D & J Sports will also be set up in the gymnasium.

There will be a Public Announcement system in the gym so everyone can keep track of the events.  Also, a dry erase board will post the events currently swimming.  Coaches will need to prepare both their swimmers and parents in advance so that everyone will know how far in advance they need to plan to enter the natatorium for their pre-race warm-up.

All spectators should enter and exit via the stairwell on the east side of the natatorium, which is to your right upon entering the building.  All swimmers will enter and exit the natatorium using the west side stair well on the office side of the pool.

Once inside the natatorium, there will be spectator “standing room only” on the East side and the South end of the pool.  This will allow each spectator to have the best view of their swimmer’s race.  After their child swims, spectators should leave the pool deck to make room for the next race spectators.

The bleachers will be reserved for swimmers use only.  Swimmers will be allowed to use the bleachers in the pool area for pre race warm up, immediately preceding their events and for their cool down after their race.

Coaches are asked not to bring their own chairs since seats will be provided for you. There will be tables along the east side of the pool like the 410 Block facility.  A fantastic coaches’ hospitality will be provided for you.

We will be running a fly over meet.  Please start practicing fly over starts with your swimmers.

Timing responsibility will be assigned for each team, based upon the number of swimmers attending the meet.  A list of lane timer responsibility will be sent to you so that you may determine your volunteers in advance of the meet.  Should you have additional parents, beyond your responsibility, who prefer to time, please let us know and we will utilize those folks to cover any shortages we may encounter.

If you have officials on your team willing to assist in officiating, please have them contact our Meet Referee, Ray Pearce at Poolsbyray@aol.com

Coaching credentials will be checked at this meet.  Please be sure to plan to wear your coaching cards while you are on deck.

If you wish to be removed from this email list, please reply with "Please Remove" in the subject line.  Please do not report this as SPAM!!

Our summer practice schedule will begin May 3rd.  I have prepared a preliminary practice and meet schedule for your review.  Please look it over and get me any comments or concerns you may have, before I finalize our practice schedule.

As I have said previously, we WILL be offering Advanced Team practices this summer for our first time!!  I am hoping to have enough interest to keep Coach Ben on for coaching our Advanced Team practices in the afternoons.  Please let Ben and/or I know if your Advanced Team swimmer(s) is interested in training with us this summer, or if you have any questions in regards to the differences between summer league and GOLD!

Additionally, I am looking into offering a later daily morning practice for masters in addition to the 3 early morning practices beginning in June.  Unfortunately, the city has reinvigorated their efforts to increase our rates for this summer which will total at least $36,000 annually.  This is simply not affordable, and I am continuing the seemingly endless battle, so our schedule is dependent on the outcome of our rate.  Please be patient as I get this ironed out.

The repairs/updates to the pool deck at the Rec Center will not be completed for another week.  I hope to maintain our schedule at SU again this upcoming week, but I am awaiting final approval.  Please assume that practice next week will be at SU during our regularly scheduled times for Masters, FUNdamental, and Advanced Team afternoon practices, as well as Masters and Senior Team morning practices, unless you hear otherwise.  Please check the Home Page of our website on the Twitter or Facebook post for the final word.  I will be heading back from College Station and may not be able to send out an email.

Afternoon Pre-Senior and Senior Team practices are as scheduled; Village Pool Mon-Thurs 5:15-7PM, depending on the weather.  No Friday afternoon practices this month!

3-1-10
This is a friendly reminder that the Rec Center Pool is CLOSED this week, so all Masters, FUNdamental, Advanced Team, and morning Senior Team practices have been scheduled for Southwestern University at their regular times.  Pre-Senior and Senior Team afternoon practices are scheduled for the Village Pool except for today.
2-26-10
I have attached an updated March calendar for your review.  We WILL be able to utilize the indoor facility in the mornings at Southwestern next week, thanks to our newest AG Masters member, Dan Carrington, head coach for the men's and women's Southwestern Swimming Team!!  Thank you, and welcome, Dan!!
2-24-10
The Georgetown Recreation Center Pool will be closed next week for deck repairs/updates, so our afternoon/evening FUNdamental, Advanced, and Masters practices will be held at Southwestern University at your regular practice times.  A few things to remember while we are at SU:
  1. Parents, please do not wander off in the athletic complex and/or utilize the gym/track/equipment.  If you stay during practice, please sit in the area of the stadium seating upstairs.
  2. Swimmers, do not leave your personal belongings in the locker rooms during practice.  Please bring everything with you onto the pool deck.
  3. Enter/Exit through the pool deck doors.
  4. We will be sharing the pool with the occasional Rec swimmer, so please be respectful of the their lane/space.

Senior/Masters Swimmers:  Morning practices will be tentative next week, as they are scheduled to be at Village Pool at regular times.  We will not have access to SU in the mornings, and warmer weather does not look promising next week.  Please stay tuned to the Home Page of our website or the AG Hotline, which I may not be able to update until 8-9PM the evening before the morning practice.

All eligible GOLD swimmers are encouraged to compete at the 2010 Shortcourse Junior Olympics held at the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio March 28-30th.  Meet info may be found HERE.  Swimmers may enter any event in which they have NOT achieved a STAGS/Senior Champs time standard (except 8&U swimmers may enter any event).  I have included an eligibilty report for your review (newly registered swimmers may not be listed; please send me notice if you are interested in participating).  Preliminary entries are due Monday, March 8th.  The final entry due date is Thursday, March 11th.

There are NO Friday afternoon practices offered during the month of March.  There are several changes to the attached calendar (especially during Spring Break!), so please print out a copy for your fridge!

Masters swimmers:  The 2010 Shortcourse Zones Championships will be held at The Woodlands on April 9-11th.  Early entries must be postmarked by March 15th for $45, late entries must be postmarked by March 31st at $55.  NO entries will be accepted after March 31st.  Meet info may be found HERE
2-24-10
I have received a friendly reminder that our health code requires swimmers to rinse off before entering public pools, so please jump in the shower after stretching before you start your warm-up!  There are a few showers on the pool deck you may use.

2-22-10
Pre-Senior/Senior Teams: Since Mother Nature seems to have forgotten that we are in Central Texas, we will have practice Mon-Thursday at Southwestern 5:15-7PM.  There is some bad wintry weather predicted for Tuesday evening, so keep an eye on the website for cancellations.

Congratulations to Texas Gold Swimming who competed at the 2010 Shortcourse South Texas Age Group Champs and Senior Champs this past weekend in San Antonio, both with around 500 participants at each meet!!

My cell phone number is 512-470-3253 should you need anything (emergencies only, please!)  Coach Ben and I will be on deck at STAGS, however, I hope to be able to go see a session or two at Senior Champs as well, so I may miss a few sessions at STAGS. We'll see...

Please send me your cell number and your hotel info, if I don't already have that.

Thank you!!

If you are not on this list (Linda and Colleen forwarded me their USMS registrations, thank you!) you will need to get registered or forward me your registration card from the team you are attached to.  Since USMS implemented an on-line registration process in 2008, we no longer handle this registration as part of your annual dues.  If you have not renewed your membership for 2010, please use the link below renew on-line.  It is quick and easy, and you can print new USMS card immediately.  I will receive an email immediately after you register with us.

When completing the on-line form, the team is listed under Aquatics of Georgetown Masters, abbrevation AGM, and our LMSC is South Texas

Practices this week will be at Southwestern 6-7:45PM for Pre-Senior, 6-8PM for Senior Team.

2-3-10
Pre-Senior/Senior Teams:

We will be able to have practice today at Southwestern rather than at Village during our REGULAR practice times for Rockstar Wednesday, 5:15-7PM for Pre-Senior and 5:15-7:30PM for Senior Team.  We will see how the weather behaves for Thursday's practice.  If we change the location, it will likely be at at a later time.  Please assume Thursday's practice will be at Village until you hear otherwise from me.

Thank you!

Update for FUNdamental and Advanced Teams:

I have attached our training calendar for February.  I will be preparing statements to be sent out early this week, so please shoot me an email if you will be suspending your membership.  Please let me know if you would like to be removed from my email blasts!

We are offering another Start Clinic this Friday for ALL teams at the Rec from 5-6PM.  There will be no practice on Friday afternoon, other than the clinic.  We will have regular practice on Saturday morning at the Village Pool.

Preliminary entries for STAGS and Senior Champs are due Tuesday.  I have attached the eligibility sheet (not updated with Districts results) for your review.  Final entries are due Sunday, February 7th for those of you who qualify for additional events at the Last Chance meet this weekend.  Also, please let me know if you will be available for relay participation, and which day(s) you will be available.  For the Order of Events for STAGS, go HERE, and for Senior Champs, go HERE.  Many of us are staying at the Hyatt Place, which is directly in between the two pools for STAGS (9.6 miles) and Senior Champs (10.1 miles).  They are currently offering $71/nightly rate.  Book online HERE.

We are entering our "Championship Season."  Each swimmer will have a championship meet that we are aiming for.  There are many different levels of championship meets.  The first meet a swimmer attends is typically the Junior Olympics.  Swimmers are eligible to swim any event at JO's in which they did not achieve a qualifying time for STAGS or Senior Champs.  The next level is STAGS(for swimmers ages 12&Under) and Senior Champs (for swimmers ages 13&Up).  This meet is used to try and qualify for the next level meet, TAGS (for 14&Under) and Sectionals(for any age, but is faster than TAGS).  Following Sectionals, would roughly be Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals, and Olympic Trials

As you may or may not know, our sport consists of 2 seasons; a shortcourse season and a longcourse season.  The shortcourse season runs September-March, and the longcourse season runs April-August.  Yes, swimming is a YEAR long sport for the elite swimmers!  We generally take off a couple weeks around Spring Break and then again in August.  Shortcourse season is what most of you are familiar with; competitions in 25 yard pools like the pool at Southwestern.  In the Longcourse season, however, competitions are generally held in 50 Meter pools, like the one at Williams Dr. or at UT without the bulkheads in the center of the pool.

Historically, we have ceased offering our FUNdamental and Advanced Teams at the end of April, and we encourage everyone on these teams to join their local summer league teams, like the Aquadillos or Round Rock Dolphins beginning in early May.  I have received several requests for us to continue to offer practices for our younger Advanced Team swimmers, but I need to see what kind of interest is out there, as we would need more than a couple of swimmers to warrant the pool and coaching costs of implementing another practice.  If your Advanced Team swimmer is interested in swimming with Texas Gold during our Longcourse season, please shoot me an email to let me know.  Our last FUNdamental Team practice will be April 29th.  There will be some changes to our coaching staff and practice times once school lets out, as most of our coaching staff joins the staff for the Aquadillos.

Let's get ready to swim FAST!!!!

For the few swimmers who are not competing this weekend, we encourage you to participate, as it will be a fun practice and will allow the FUNdamental and Advanced groups to get to know each other a little better. Again, practice for BOTH GROUPS will run from 5:30 until 7:00 this Thursday at the Rec. See you there!

We will still have our Start Clinic at the Rec on Friday 5-6PM.

Greetings Swimmers!

I have attached a tentative timeline, warm-up assignments, and have included some information on a fun way to "preserve the moment" of your races this weekend (please read forwarded information below).

Please email Coach Ben your preference for your volunteer position by Friday!

Have a great week, and we'll see you Saturday!!  (Don't forget to read below!)

Dear Parents and Swimmers,

River Oak Photography will be attending the Texas Gold's Best Times Team Trophy Meet coming up on January 23 and 24. We are a photography company that specializes in swimming photography. Our work with Texas Gold is mutually beneficial in that a percentage of our profits are given to the Texas Gold Georgetown booster club.

How it will work at the meet: We work on a reservation basis. A "reservation" books a specific heat for ONE swimmer only, that way our photographers can provide their full attention to your swimmer. From each booked heat we will get around 15-20 edited and color corrected high resolution photographs. At the meet you will only purchase reservations and each heat you want to reserve is $10 (i.e. 1 heat is $10 and 2 heats are $20). You will purchase your prints from our website after the meet (prices vary from $19 for packages and $6-50+ for single prints, depending on size of print). At the meet when we get your reservation we will get your contact information, and on Tuesday or Wednesday we will send you an email with a direct link to your swimmers photographs. We offer all size prints, photo mugs, key chains, and our signature poster-size composites.

Please check out our work and our composites on our website www.riveroakphotography.com.

As mentioned, we work on a reservation basis, which means that we DO NOT take pictures of all swimmers attending the meet, and we permit only ONE reservation per heat. If you wish to get your swimmer photographed, stop by our retail booth to sign up for your reservation EARLY to ensure that you will be able to book your child's heat. Lastly, don't forget that a percentage of our profits goes to Texas Gold's booster club!

Thank you for your time!

We will have our regularly scheduled practice on Saturday for Pre-Senior, Senior, and Senior Team members at the Village Pool 7:45-9:30/10AM.

We have just received notice that the Rec Center will be closed on Monday, so we will move our practices to the Village Pool at the scheduled times; FUN 3:45-5PM, Adv 5-6:30PM, Pre-Senior/Senior 5:15-7/7:30PM, Masters 6:15-8PM.

I will be preparing Volunteer Sign-ups for our last home meet later this week.  We have reached maximum capacity on Saturday with 200 swimmers and 140 on Sunday, so we will need LOTS of volunteers!!

Preliminary entries are due TODAY for our final home meet!!  Please make every effort to attend one or both days!  FINAL entries will be due Monday!!

For those of you not familiar with STAGS (South Texas Age Group Swimming) and Senior Championships, they are our local swim committee's championship meets, called South Texas Swimming (sort of a "regional" meet against other teams in the Temple, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus, and Brownsville areas).  STAGS is only 12&Under, while Senior Champs is 13&Over.  The age groups that swimmers compete against are: 10&Under (it is rare to have an 8 year old or younger compete at STAGS because the time standards are set for 10yr olds), 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15&over.  So 11yr olds compete against only other 11 yr olds, but a 15 yr old must compete against 16, 17, 18-25 yr olds.  Swimmers who do not achieve a STAGS or Senior Champ qualifying time in a specific event will be eligible to compete for that event at the Junior Olympic Championships held at the end of March.  The next level of competition for 14&Under swimmers is TAGS, or Texas Age Group Swimming Championships.  This is the state meet for all teams in Texas (extremely fast!).  Sectionals is a national region meet that includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Louisiana that is time-specific, not based on age.

I have attached a best times report for each swimmer.  You may notice "STAGS" listed next to a time listed on the report.  This means that the time has qualified that swimmer for either STAGS (12&Under) or Senior Champs (13&Up).  If it is not a qualifying time, then there will be a delta time listed to show you how close that best time is to the qualifying time.  If neither of those is listed, then that particular event is not available at STAGS (25yd events are not offered) or Senior Champs (50yd events, other than free, and 100IM is not offered).  Do not worry if you do not have one of these times right now!  Our goal is improvement, and these times are a great way to monitor that.  For all time standards, please visit our website at http://www.swimgeorgetown.com/html/time_standards.php

Here is some preliminary information on the meets I just mentioned (the hyperlinks are the OFFICIAL invitations.  I will get you our  entry procedures later this month):

STAGSFeb 19-21 at Palo Alto College in San Antonio entries due Feb 2nd.
Senior Champs Feb 19-21 at Northside 1604 in San Antonio  entries due Feb 2nd
Sectionals March 5-7th at Texas A&M
TAGS March 11-14th at The Woodlands
Junior OlympicsMarch 26-28th at Incarnate Word in San Antonio

Let's get ready to swim FAST!!!!
