Congratulations GOLD on placing 3rd at "A" Championships!

What a fantastic meet!  Everyone swam very well, both in prelims and in finals.  Though we weren't the largest team at the meet, we were certainly the loudest when it came to cheering for our kids.  Thank you swimmers and parents (and siblings!) for such a great TEAM showing this weekend!

Attached you will find the meet results and a championship picture with the 3rd place banner.

Awards have been put in labeled plastic bags and will be placed in the team bin at the Rec Center for pickup whenever it is convenient.

Some notes from the meet director:

A little information on the pool set up since it is new to most of you:

There is a grassy area outside the pool fence (we will open a wide gate) where teams may want to set up and also some space on the concrete on the far long side of the pool. The pool is 100% outdoor with NO tree shade and very little seating.

Please encourage your parents to bring chairs, blankets, and even small tents for shade and seating.

We will have a concession stand for purchasing small snacks, drinks, and heat sheets.

There is a ping well that will be used only for warm-up and warm-down and please ask them to exit on the side nearest the baby pool for best traffic flow. The baby pool is gated and locked. Please ensure your kiddo's follow this policy as we will have a marshal and lifeguards patrolling as well. Swimmers will enter the starting area from the ping well side (we are calling "the staging area" ) and will be directed as appropriate to the correct lanes, along with having an announcer making first & second calls for events.

IMPORTANT INFO ON ACCESS TO THE POOL:

All Coaches, Officials and Teams,

1. Due to increased security levels at all military installations across the United States, the following procedures are required for entrance onto the Fort Hood installation.  We apologize for any inconvienence this may cause to your families, but we are required to meet the requirements as directed by the Commanding General, Fort Hood.  This change will have no impact on the conduct of the meet.

2.  All teams submitting names as requested will follow the same directions and entrance procedures to enter the Fort Hood installation as stated in the sanction letter (CLEAR CREEK GATE).  Names will be validated against identification presented at the entry control point prior to entrance.  Names are screened by the Department of Emergency Services on Fort Hood (Military Police) for pre-approval.

3.  Any teams or inpiduals not submitting names will be required to stop at the Fort Hood Visitors Center to register for a visitors pass prior to entrance to the installation.  This is a 2-4 minute process but wait times can be as long as 30-45 minutes if there is a large number of visitors entering the post. Directions to the visitors center are:
a)  Follow the same directions to Fort Hood
b)  Follow signs to the TJ Mills BLvd Entrance (Main Gate)to Fort Hood
c)  Proceed on TJ Mills Blvd passing under a highway and rail bridges. Fort Hood Visitors Center is located on the right immediately after the 2nd Overpass.
d)  Park and proceed inside.  Take with you picture identification, proof of insurance, and registration.  Take a number for visitor pass registration.
e)  Upon receipt of pass, Enter the post at the main gate. Follow TJ Mills Blvd north for a 1/4 mile. At the first traffic light, turn left on Tank Destroyer Blvd and travel west 2 miles to the pool.

4.  Instructions for Name worksheet.
a.  Mandatory. Enter last name, first name, Middle Initial, Current Address and City of Residence for all inpiduals who will be driving vehicles onto the installation.  It is recommended to include all adults who will be attending the meet in the event someone needs to leave the installation and return.  If not on the list, inpidual will subsequently have to go the Visitors' Center for a Visitor Pass.  Coach Dale has already submitted names and addresses for this list, which is attached (I did not get a response from some, so I listed parents.  If you need to get yourself or someone else added to this list, email Jeff by clicking HERE.
5.  Again, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for any of your families or swimmers.

6.  If there are any questions, please contact me at the number below.

Dear Texas Gold Families,

Dale wanted to know what can be done to help the Maresca's.  At this point, they are SWAMPED with help!  They are in the process of moving from Berry Creek to Hwy 29.  I stopped by the house in Berry Creek and there were cars, trucks and trailers lined up!  Many people are not only helping them move out of the Berry Creek house, but helping them unpack at the new home.  It's so nice to know that Keith has so many friends.  I also know that at this point, meals are set through next week.  So...I suggest that all of us on Texas Gold just sit back and wait for our turn to help out.  After next week, I am sure that Keith will still need meals as well as help with the kids.  I know many of us are already helping out at this point, but I have heard from many on Texas Gold that would like to pitch in.

The situation with Jan still remains the same...off of life support but struggling.  I think the best we can do right now is pray, pray, pray for the Maresca's!!!  Please read on for info on the distribution list.

Blessings to all...

Pre-Senior/Senior Teams:

We will NOT have practice on Monday morning for Pre-Senior and Senior Teams.  All other practices this week are as scheduled.

6-9-11

Ft Hood Swim Meet Participants:

Please read the forwarded information below.  Since we will be attending a meet on a military base, there are some policies and procedures we must adhere to.  I will need the first and last name for anyone who may potentially be driving a vehicle onto the military base, including spectators, parents, and/or swimmers.  If your name is not on the list upon arrival, you will be required to go the main entrance for a background check.  ALL ADULTS MUST CARRY A PHOTO ID AT ALL TIMES, and you must present it at the gate, whether driving or not.

I need this information by Sunday night so I can get the meet host the requested information on Monday.:

Coaches,

The procedures for entering the Fort Hood Installation have changed.  For security reasons, we must compile a LIST OF EVERY DRIVER that will be attending the meet. Please make one list (first and last name) of everyone who will be driving to the meet from your team and send it to board@fhdolphins.com by Monday, 13 June.  Don't forget to include coaches, officials, swimmers who drive themselves, Sunday only swimmers, grandparents, etc.  We will compile a master list and have it with the security guards at the Clear Creek Gate on the days of the meet.   If a swimmer arrives at the gate whose name is not on the list, they will be redirected to the Main Gate, where a license, insurance and background screening will be checked before a entry pass will be issued.  Additionally, every adult, whether driving or not, must have a picture ID and present it to the guards at the gate.  Each time you enter the gate, your name and IDs will be checked, so if you plan to drop off and come back, make sure every potential driver has their name on the list.  Please remember that our security guards do a very important job keeping us safe--let's make the process as smooth as possible for everyone!  Thanks for your cooperation!

5-16-11

The summer schedule is posted!  I apologize for such a long delay, it was not the easiest task getting everything lined out.  HOWEVER, we did get most everything on our wish list.  All teams WILL get to use the Williams Dr longcourse pool in the afternoons this year.  The calendar I have attached includes the next 7 weeks, however, there will most likely be some changes to our schedule when the city starts their summer league program on June 15th.

Pre-Senior/Senior Teams:

We will be sharing the afternoon longcourse pool time with Texas Gold Wells Branch, so we have had to split some of our afternoon practices to make room and offer practices for swimmers of similar training speeds.  Tuesday and Thursday afternoons will be available for high school Senior Team swimmers and 13&O "AAA+" swimmers only, and Wed/Friday afternoons at Williams will be available for all other GOLD teams.  All afternoon longcourse practices are 1.5hrs for all teams (plus 15 minutes for stretching/dryland).

Pre-Senior Team SPLIT:

This summer, we will be offering two different sets of practices for the Pre-Senior Team: Pre-Senior (1.5hr afternoon practices) and Pre-Senior Plus (2hr morning practices) teams.  The Pre-senior swimmers who typically have been practicing for 1.5hrs will have their practices in the afternoons, and the Pre-Senior swimmers who have been swimming for 2hrs with the Senior Team will be swimming during the designated "Pre-Senior+" practices, additionally, Pre-Senior + members will also attend Monday afternoons at Southwestern.  Pre-Senior + members also have the option of joining the afternoon Pre-Senior practices Wed/Fridays for additional or makeup practices, but are not required since we will have Friday and Saturday mornings for longcourse training experience.  Beginning in June, the Pre-Senior+ practice teams will be $110/monthIf your Pre-Senior swimmer has been swimming 2 hrs with the Senior Team, and you wish to stay at the $95/month rate, please let me know that your swi

mmer will not be joining the Pre-Senior + team.

All Texas Gold swim teams (both Georgetown and Wells Branch) will have our annual Schlitterbahn trip Monday, June 20th.  Details will be posted in June.

Please note due dates for meet entries!  We have not yet received any feedback from South Texas Swimming concerning my request to change our location for BB Champs from Brownsville to San Antonio.  If we are to remain assigned to Brownsville, it is likely we will use the Texas Open as our BB Champs, as you must have BB times in all events in order to participate at the Texas Open this year, rather than attend the BB Champs in Brownsville.

Preliminary Damon McCoy meet entries are due WEDNESDAYFINAL entries are due Friday, May 27th.  Meet Info: http://www.cosst.net/#mccoy

MASTERS:

There will be 2 weeks this summer when Williams Dr will not be available for our afternoon practices: week of May 30th and July 4th.  We will offer practices at the Recreation Center on these days.

With the unpredictable weather season, please remember to check the Twitter widget for practice changes (or "follow" us on Twitter or Facebook to get these updates sent to you immediately)! It is located on the bottom left hand side of our website.  We will also attempt to send an email and post to the AG HOTLINE(512-246-7491).

5-7-11

AG MASTERS:

We will have morning practices this upcoming week at Williams Dr Mon/Wed 5:30-7AM , which is 15 minutes earlier due to the need to get the lanelines rolled up after practice.  Friday will be normal time, also at Williams Dr.

YAY LONGCOURSE (and cooler water!!)

5-2-11

Pre-Senior/Senior Teams:

With the cooler pool temps at the Village Pool, practices Monday and Tuesday afternoon will be at Southwestern University 5-6:45PM/7:15PM.  Keep an eye open for Wed/Thursday practice changes.

Morning practices will remain at the Rec Center this week, unless you hear otherwise from me.

A note from the President of South Texas Swimming:

Coaches,

There is a concern in South Texas Swimming. Even though our swimmer numbers have continued to increase over the years, the amount of registered swim officials has not grown in proportion.

This is a major concern. Without officials, we don’t have meets.

I would encourage each team, to recruit at least two additional parents to become South Texas Officials.

Currently we have approximately 100 officials. We have roughly 50 registered teams in South Texas. If each team recruits 2 additional officials, we will be in good shape.

We will be offering training classes, in the next two months.

For the Austin area, a training class will be held Sunday, May 22, at UT, between the morning (12 & under) session, and the afternoon (13 & up) session.

In San Antonio, there will be a training class held the weekend of June 10-12, at the Blossom pool. Exact times are pending, more info will follow.

There are five steps that you would need to complete to become a USA Swimming official;

  1. Complete the necessary registration paperwork. There are actually two organizations you would need to join — USA Swimming (2011 USAS Official’s Registration) and South Texas Swimming (STSI Official’s Registration). You can find these forms on the South Texas Swimming website at http://www.aaaa-sa.org/STSIOfficialsHomePage.htm. You will then receive a rule book. There is a fee associated with both of these, but, once all proper steps have been taken, South Texas Swimming will reimburse you.
  2. Attend a Stroke & Turn clinic.
  3. Complete and submit an open book official’s test within 90 days of attending this clinic. You can find this test at http://www.aaaa-sa.org/STSIOfficialsHomePage.htm. After successfully completing this test, you will be a Trainee.
  4. Trainees then need to shadow other, more senior/experienced officials at meets for a total of 25 hours. You will need to complete a log of these sessions and submit it to Roger Graham (South Texas Swimming Officials’ Chair).
  5. As with all officials, you will need to complete a background check. This is for the safety of all of our swimmers. This is a new procedure in 2011 that all officials will need to complete. There is a fee for this background check, but South Texas Swimming will reimburse you for this cost.
  6. Texas Gold Georgetown discounts coaches meet fees ($5-10 per session per swimmer) each session you work.

Again, please encourage at least two additional volunteers from your team.

Thank you,
Mark Parshall

Alright Mighty Masters!

Entries for the 2011 Shortcourse ZONES Championships are due 3PM FRIDAY!  You can still enter!  Since entries are due by 3PM tomorrow, you may email me your entries, seed times, and a copy of your USMS card (or the link; I should be able to find it if you can't) and I will email your entries to the host team by the due date/time.  You will mail a hard copy and payment ASAP.

For those of you who are attending, please send me your entries and seed times if you have them handy so I can get Carla a team entry list.  Please indicate if you need me to submit them to the host team for you or not.

It sounds like we have a great crowd going!!  Coach Carla will be on deck Saturday and Sunday, and will be preparing entries for relays first thing each morning (they are due 1hr after the start of the meet).  Relay events will be $2 each person, so bring some small bills!

3-8-11

Congratulations on qualifying for TAGS!!  This is the LARGEST team Texas Gold Georgetown has had competing at TAGS; We have 9 total athletes in 28 events!!  Let's get ready to SWIM FAST!!!!  This is the meet we have trained ALL year for!

General Meet Info: http://www.planoswimming.org/TAGS.html

Timeline: http://www.planoswimming.org/files/tags_time_line_version_1.pdf

Psych Sheet: http://www.planoswimming.org/files/2011_tags_psych_sheet_v_3.0.pdf

Warm-up Schedule: http://www.planoswimming.org/files/2011_TAGS_warm-up_schedule.pdf

Timer Assignments: We are responsible for seat#2 during Sunday prelims on the boys end of the pool lane#5.  Volunteers will be requested for all finals sessions.

GEORGETOWN ENTRIES: http://www.sports-tek.com/TMOnline/aMeetENTRIES.ASP?db=upload\AquaticsofGeorgetown.mdb&MEET=261  Relay entries are attached.

Meet Schedule:

Thursday-Black shirts

Warm-up 4PM, meet starts at 5PM

Although the 800 free relay is the last event, this facility has minimal warm-up space. You are encouraged to arrive ready to warm-up at 4PM on Thursday.

Friday Prelims-championship t-shirts

Warm-up starts at 7:30AM, arrive by 7:15AM.  Meet Starts at 9:20AM.  There is a team parade at the beginning of Friday's session.

Saturday Prelims-White shirts

Warm-up starts at 7:00AM, arrive by 6:45AM.

Meet Starts at 9:00AM

Sunday Prelims-Grey Shirts

Warm-up starts at 8:00AM, arrive by 7:45AM.

Meet Starts at 9:00AM

ALL FINALS (Fri-Sunday)- Black Shirts

4:30PM warm-up

5:30PM meet start

Relays are swum only once.  The top 8 fastest relays will be swum during finals, which means our 10&U girls 400 free relay (ranked 5th) will swim during finals Friday evening.  The remaining relays will be swum during prelims.  Please review the psych sheet for your relay and its place.  The top 8 swimmers in individual events by age group will qualify for finals.  Top 8 places score.

Friday relays will start at 11:43AM.  Unfortunately, this facility has VERY limited warm-up space since both pools will be used during the competition.  This will not be good for swimmers coming in to do a complete warm-up after the meet has started.  If you are driving up Friday morning for the relay only, I suggest swimming at the Rec Center and do your full warm-up in the morning, then head up to the meet.  They can then do a brief warm-up before their relay.  Otherwise you are encouraged to participate in our designated warm-up period.  The same goes for other events throughout the meet.  In past meets, the warm-up pool was flat out dangerous when the meet was going on.

GO GOLD!!!

Senior Team/Masters Team Update

I have included the March/April Calendar in DOC and PDF formats for your review as well as our meet schedule for this summer.

Please let me know today if you will be suspending your account for March so I may update your statement.

Texas Gold Swimming will be on break March 14-19th.

AG Masters will have regular practices on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday during Spring Break.  No practice on Tuesday or Thursday.

Masters March Madness Meet at Rice will be held on March 12th.  Entries are due March 9th.

Masters Zones Championships will be held in San Antonio April 1-3rd.  Entries are due March 25th.

Texas Gold Swimming Summer Planning:  Our FUNdamental Team practices will be suspended on April 28th for the remainder of the summer.  We will continue to offer Advanced Team practices throughout the summer.  Please inquire with your coach to see if it is possible to move up from FUNdamental to Advanced Team if you wish to continue this summer.  All FUNdamental Team members are strongly encouraged to join a summer league program, such as the Aquadillos.  Registration for Aquadillos opens March 21st.  Registration fees do not transfer over from Texas Gold to Aquadillos, as the programs are sanctioned under different programs.

The NWSC (committee that regulates the summer league programs) established rules prohibiting 12&Under swimmers who compete with a summer league program from "participating" with another swimming organization, such as Texas Gold unless that 12&U swimmer competes in the 13-14 age group regardless of their actual age.  Therefore, 12&U swimmers are typically forced to choose USA Swimming or summer league swimming.  They are not allowed to compete or practice with another swim program unless they "swim up."  13&O swimmers are permitted to participate in both summer league and club swimming.  This rule takes effect on the first day the summer league competitions start, which is usually May 28th, which means you are able to continue GOLD practices and competitions until that date

"Longcourse" is our spring/summer season, as opposed to our fall/winter "shortcourse" season.  This means most competitions are held in 50 Meter pools, like Williams Dr, rather than the 25 yard pools, like the Rec Center, that we have competed all year to date.  You will see different time standards for "B, BB, A, etc" for Longcourse Meters than we have been using for Shortcourse Yards.  Obviously, 50M events will be the shortest events available throughout the summer.

There are no additional registration fees to continue with our program for the summer.  If you will be joining a summer league team program and will suspend your account with us, please notify me prior to your suspension.

I am working with Stephanie on our summer practice schedule and facility rental.  It looks like we WILL be able to get in more longcourse practices this summer!  I'll keep you updated.

I have attached our longcourse meet schedule for our summer season.

I will be sending out an update on our recent performances at the Best Times meet and "A" Champs shortly!

2-24-11

There will be NO practice on Friday afternoon.   Good luck to all Texas Gold "A" Champs competitors!  The meet starts TOMORROW!

I am finalizing our March calendar; I apologize for the delay in getting that out to you for your planning purposes.

2-22-11

Greetings A Champs Competitors:

First, congratulations on qualifying for this meet!!  This will be more competitive than our previous meets, and will be such a great opportunity to race!

The psych sheets are attached, but are mostly listed with all age groups.  The top 16 swims for each age group in prelims will be invited to return for finals.  If you are not intending on attending finals, you MUST notify your coach!  You are required to "scratch" within 30 minutes of the release of the results for each event if you will not return.  There are severe penalties for missing your assignment at finals ($100 fine and you will be removed from the remainder of the meet).  Your participation in finals, however, is expected should you qualify.

Prelim Warm-Ups - Meet Starts at 8:30AM:
FRIDAY-WHITE SHIRTS
7:30-8:00AM, starts at 8:00-8:15AM
SATURDAY-CHAMPIONSHIP SHIRTS or BLACK
7:00-7:30AM, starts at 8:00-8:15AM
SUNDAY-GREY SHIRTS
6:30-7:00AM, starts at 8:00-8:15AM
Final Warm-ups - Meet Starts at 5:00PM:
3:30-4:00PM, starts 4:30-4:45PM

Maps to the Belton pool are attached.  Please follow the parking instructions!

Relay entries are attached.  Relays were a little tricky to put together, since swimmers could not participate who have TAGS/Sectionals cuts and some swimmers are not participating on some days.  Even if you are not listed on a relay, please notify your coach prior to leaving each session in case you are needed to as a substitute.

Let's get ready to swim FAST!!!

GO GOLD!!!!

Greetings;

Attached, you will find the psych sheets for each session this weekend. There were a few swimmers with faster times listed in SWIMS, so those were updated.  Please notify me of any errors and/or scratches ASAP.

Please forward to your parents!

Parking is going to be an issue on Saturday, as the City of Georgetown has also scheduled basketball games throughout the day.  PLEASE CARPOOL WHEN POSSIBLE!!  On Sunday, there will be no conflicts, but the additional parking listed below will continue to be available.

For additional parking,

  1. drive past the Recreation Center on Stadium Dr, and
  2. turn left on East Morrow St, just past an empty fenced-in field that was previously the old football stadium.
  3. Turn left onto a gravel lot just north of the old football stadium lot.  This lot backs right up to the outdoor water park where you will have easy access to the pool.
  4. You may also park anywhere in designated parking spots and along the road in the San Gabriel Park area, as long as you are not parked on the asphalt of the road or there is a sign prohibiting parking.  HERE is the location of the additional parking.

Bring your chairs, blankets and pop-up tents!  The large outdoor patio will be available for lounging.  Spectators are welcome to sit on the bleachers provided that will seat 150 people.  Please keep all of your personal belongings at your feet to keep the bleachers available for maximum seating.  Athletes are asked to sit on the pool deck (personal chairs are permitted) or on the outdoor patio, but NOT on the bleachers.

This indoor facility is not air-conditioned, so dress appropriately; it will be warm.

We will be offering a silent auction on Saturday benefitting the SwimGeorgetown Scholarship Fund.  ALL proceeds go directly to this Fund that awards qualifying Texas Gold high school senior swimmers a $500 Collegiate Scholarship.  Here are some of the items that will be available for bidding:

  • Two "Superbox" tickets for Game 38 of the Spurs vs. Kings on Friday, March 11th at 7:30PM.  Includes a Lot 2 Parking Pass.  These tickets permit you access through the VIP entrance beginning at 6:00PM.  Complimentary beer, wine, soda, and food are served to Superbox Ticket holders.
    is served through the 3rd quarter. SEC SB0C ROW 6 SEAT 1 & 2Face Value: $325

Please sign up for your volunteer position ASAP!  I will be getting you a list of urgent positions that we need filled Thursday.  I really need Safety Marshalls and concession help!!  The sign-up sheet is posted at the Rec Center.

Parking on Saturday morning will be awful!  The city has also booked a basketball game that starts at 8:30AM.  I am seeking alternatives for our parking, but do not see many options.

We have some GREAT donations for our SwimGeorgetown Scholarship silent auction on Saturday!!  If you have any donations that you have collected, please let me know what it is, its retail value, and a company logo if applicable so I may prepare their sponsorship notifications and bid sheets.  Some donations so far include a Mary Kay basket, 2 "superbox" Spurs tickets, $115 in car washes at Arbor Car Wash, $50 gift card at Dick's Sporting Goods, $25 Best Buy gift card, RunTex gift basket including a $50 gift card, Koy Animal Clinic Wellness Exam, and more are pouring in!  I need to prepare the bid sheets, so please let me know what else is headed our way!  THANK YOU!!!

Greetings Best Times Meet Entry Chairpersons/Coaches:

Attached, you will find warm-up assignments, timeline, and entry lists for all sessions.  I am asking for all teams to send updated entry times for your swimmers who have attended any meets since you submitted your entries.  I will compare entry times to SWIMS to ensure current entry times, and then send you the psych sheets by Thursday.  Please review the entry lists and notify me of any errors by Thursday.

As you will see, our timeline for each session is well under 4 hours, however, this facility has limitations on the amount of spectators and athletes that it is able to host.  Spectators will have on deck bleachers for seating.  There will not be an abundance of room for seating, so all spectators are asked to keep all personal belongings at their feetAthletes will not be permitted on the bleachers.  Athletes will be seated on deck, and may bring chairs.  Additionally, there is a large outdoor patio that will be available for seating for spectators and athletes.  You are welcome to bring pop-up tents and chairs, as the weather looks to be great for the weekend.  You may enter the patio through the rear entrance of the recreation center.  The outdoor pool is restricted at all times

Neither food nor drink is permitted on deck.  Concessions will be available just outside on the patio.  Lane Four Swimshop will be available on premises for swim gear purchases.

Please note that we are hosting our meet at the Georgetown Recreation CenterEnter the pool through the side entrance near the parking lot, not the main entrance.  Swim meet spectators and athletes will be limited to the pool and patio; visitation of the remainder of the recreation center is restricted.

The timeline is based on using 6 lanes for the main portion of the events.  We will be using 8 lanes for the 500 and 1000 freestyle events.  There will be 2 lanes available for warm-up/cool down during the main course of the meet.

I am accepting deck entries.  I will be able to seed deck entries in the heat sheet if you are able to get them to me by Wednesday.  Do not include deck entries with your entry time updates.  Please send deck entries separately.   Deck entries will also be permitted the day of the meet for available lanes only.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

2-10-11
Pre-Senior/Senior Teams:  We WILL have a practice Friday afternoon at the Rec Center 5-6:45PM.

I attempted to email statements out to everyone yesterday, but was having some technical difficulties.  Some of you may have received one, two, or NO statements.  If you did NOT receive a statement, please let me know!

If you know of any businesses/people willing to donate an item for our silent auction benefitting the SwimGeorgetown Scholarship Fund, please let me know ASAP!  I am preparing bid sheets and will be posting logos on our heat sheets and website for sponsorship.  I have included a sponsorship letter for businesses needing one in order to make a donation.  The letter is also available on our website under "Scholarship Fund" webpage.

Yesterday, I received a donation from the Houck Family of 2 "superbox" tickets to the Spurs vs. Kings game on Friday, March 11th, including a parking pass for Lot 2 (VERY close!), which allow you to use the VIP entrance 1.5hrs prior to the game.  Includes food and beverage (soda, beer, wine).  Face value $325!  Thank you, Houcks!!

Sign up for your volunteer position!!  I have attached a copy of the signup sheet for our LAST home meet Feb 19-20th at the Rec Center!  This will be a SHORT meet; the 10&Under sessions will run 10-12:30PM and the 11&Over sessions will run 2-5PM each day.
I have included the names of the Georgetown families who will be participating each session on the bottom of each volunteer session list, and as you will see, there are more volunteer positions than names of partipating families.  Please make sure your family is providing at least one person to fulfill your volunteer position.  Any additional help you are able to provide will be GREATLY appreciated!!!
The sign-up sheet will be available at the Rec Center near the exit doors.  Alternatively, if you would like to email me or Coach Ben (ben@swimgeorgetown.com) the position you would like to work, we will be able to get you signed up.  I highly encourage you to fill up the safety marshall positions before filling up the timer positions.  I am able to request help from visiting teams to fulfill the timer positions, but not the more important safety marshall and other positions.

Entries for the Best Times Meet may be reviewed on <Team Stats>  Texas Gold Georgetown has 55 athletes participating in the Best Times Meet!!!

Good luck to our 24 athletes competing in BB Champs this weekend in San Antonio beginning TOMORROW!!

GO GOLD!!!

If you know of anyone/place willing to donate items for our silent auction that will benefit our SwimGeorgetown Scholarship Fund, please let me know! I'm heading out to solicit some businesses here in Round Rock.  Arbor Car Wash donated 5x$20 wash packages and someone dropped off a $25 gift card to Best Buy.  I'll hit Dick's Sporting Goods again, they donated a $50 gift card last year.  I've attached a sponsorship letter that a lot of the larger businesses need in order to make a contribution.  Thanks for you help!!
2-3-11
We will have our regularly scheduled FUNdamental Team and Masters Team practices this afternoon.

Advanced and Pre-Senior Team will practice at the Rec 5:15-6:45PM as we did on Tuesday to make some room for our Senior Team (and Pre-Senior Team who practice the length of Senior Team) 6:30-8:15PM.

Friday practices will resume as normal, pending weather/driving conditions.

Thank you for your patience as we get through this unique weather! Looks like it'll be back in the 60's next week, although another chance of snow on Wednesday (gotta love Texas!)
1-28-11
ORDER YOUR CHAMPIONSHIP T-SHIRTS NOW!  I have attached a mock-up of our 2011 Shortcourse Championship t-shirt designed by Ashley Udelhofen, which will cost $10.  Please reply with your desired size by MONDAY, JAN 31st if you would like one!

I am also attaching our new "regular" logo t-shirts.  We will be offering 100% cotton ringer t's with a quote by Ian Thorpe on the back.  These will be $15 each, or a bundle of all 3 colors for $40.

Silicone caps:  I did place another order for the old style silicone caps, so we will have the old style available for $10 in the next week or so, and we currently have the new style for $15.  Latex caps are $5.

BB Champs entries should be submitted!  If you have any changes or additions, please let me know ASAP, as final entries are due Sunday!!  Please visit <Team Stats>, available on our <Meet Info> webpage for all prepared meet entries and results.  Please also submit your Best Times meet entries.

I am currently accepting meet entries for BB Champs, Best Times Team Trophy Meet, and A Champs.  If you have submitted entries, they may be reviewed on Team Stats.  If you do not see your entries listed, please let me know!

In preparation for our final home meet of the year February 19-20th, I would like to start collecting donations for our Silent Auction that will directly benefit our SwimGeorgetown Scholarship Fund.  This fund awards qualifying Texas Gold high school senior swimmers a $500 scholarship to be used for collegiate expenses.  We will offer these donations up for a silent auction during Saturday's session.  Last year, donations included gift baskets, gift cards, and services from local and national businesses.  Many of the larger businesses need a month's notice for donations and a request letter.  Sponsors will be listed on the heat sheets and website, and announced throughout the meet.
Congratulations to our Texas Gold Swimmers who competed at the Central Texas Invitational last weekend!  It was certainly not the best atmosphere for competing, but our swimmers were still at 69% best times with 20 new swims!!   Here are some notable results:

WAY TO GO GOLD!!!
1-18-11

Attached you will find relay assignments, warm-up assignments, psych sheets, and timing assignments for the meet this weekend. Please review the psych sheet and let me know ASAP if you see any issues.

Warm-ups each day for the PRELIMS session will be 7:55-8:20AM each day (please arrive by 7:40AM) The meet will begin at 8:30AM

Warm-ups for FINALS will begin at 4:00PM, meet will begin at 5:00PM each day.

The top 16 swimmers will qualify for the finals session that evening. If you are not able to return to compete in the FINALS session, you MUST notify Coach Ben immediately following your race, and "scratch" at the Clerk of Course, even if you are not in the Top 16. There are severe penalties for failing to scratch if you qualify for finals, or advance into finals due to swimmers who placed ahead of you end up scratching. If you are not returning that evening, you MUST scratch.

Here is a MAP to the pool at the University of Incarnate Word.

HERE are our team entries.

Team Uniform:
PRELIMS
Friday: Grey
Saturday: White
Sunday: Grey

All FINALS: Black

For informational purposes, is anyone staying at the Drury Inn under the "blocked" rooms?

Here is a note from the Meet Director *PLEASE READ*:
Attached are the Lane Timer Assignments and the Warm-up Assignments for this weekend's meet. The meet is a relatively small meet so I moved the first warm-up time thirty minutes later, from the meet information stated time of 7:00 AM, to 7:30 AM. For preliminaries, the First Warm-up will run from 7:30 AM to 7:55 AM and the Second Warm-up will run from 7:55 AM to 8:20 AM.

Approximate time line for each prelim session is:
Friday - 8:30 to 10:26 AM
Saturday - 8:30 to 10:59 AM
Sunday - 8:30 to 10:29 AM

Prepare your parents to be ready to return for finals. Looking at the number of entries in each event, by age group, most swimmers will get to swim in finals. Only a few events have more than 16 swimmers entered in an age group.

Since this is a small meet (~240 swimmers), we will not be using the tent or the gymnasium for team areas. Seating in the natatorium is limited so parents will need to bring chairs.

Chairs may NOT be set up in the area behind the blocks or the area where the tables are located, along the side of the pool closest to the office. This area is reserved for coaches. If parents set up their chairs in either of these two areas, they will be asked to move.

Coach Ben will be on deck this weekend. Please take note of his cell phone number in case of emergency: 210-317-7352

LET'S GET READY TO GET SOME BB TIMES!!!

Also, I have included the eligibility reports for B, BB, and A Champs.

1-12-11

The staff at the Rec Center has recently announced that the facility will be closed on Monday, January 17th. Masters practices on Monday morning are canceled.

Good luck to CALVIN FUSILIER, Texas Gold Georgetown swimmer who will be joining Olympic stars such as Micheal Phelps, Katie Hoff, Richard Berens, Ryan Lochte, Peter Vanderkaay, Michael Klueh, Garrett Weber-Gale, Eric Shanteau, Elaine Breeden, and many more at the 2011 USA Grand Prix held at UT this weekend. Calvin will be competing in the 200M Free and 400M IM on Friday and 200M Fly on Saturday. You may keep tabs on the meet with REAL TIME RESULTS, or you may come and support Calvin! Ticket information is HERE. Psych Sheet. Timeline.

Also good luck to our Texas Gold swimmers who are competing at the Central Texas Invitational at Temple this Saturday! Entries may be found HERE. Please wear your BLACK shirts. Warm-ups begin at 10:45am and the meet will begin at 12:30PM.

Here is a note from the meet director:

Attached are the Pysch Sheets and Timeline for the 2011 Central Texas Invite. Please review and let me know of any errors.

Due to the number of swimmers, 319, we will be using 10 lane seeding and flyover starts on 50yd and longer events.
Each team will be assigned timing chairs for this meet. It will be each teams responsibility to keep the chairs occupied. Due to an unfortunate situation we find ourselves with not enough parent volunteers to run the meet and time.
There will be a positive check in for both the 200 IM and 500 Free events. Check in for the 200 IM will end at 12 Noon and check in for the 500 Free will end at 3:30 PM. Check in sheets will be posted near the front door on our teams bulletin board.
Scratches: Please notify us by Thursday evening for individual swimmer scratches. Meet programs will be printed on Friday morning.
Relays: No card will be required if your seeding is correct. Please use a relay card for addition and/or changes to your relays. Please notify us in advance if you will be scratching relays. Changes for Medley relays will be due by 12 Noon. Changes for Free relays will be due by 3:30 PM.
The meet will be very crowded so we are asking teams to bring EZ-ups, canopy's and such to set up team areas outside of the pool.

Congratulations to our Texas Gold swimmers who competed in the 2011 New Year Classic held at UT this past weekend! Our swimmers were at 69.2% best times and destroyed a ton of team records!! Here are a few notable results:

GO GOLD!!!

1-10-11

It seems that the vast majority of you are FOR the earlier afternoon practice time.  We'll give it a shot!  I'll be more lenient on tardiness  for awhile.  We'll stretch 5-5:15PM, and get wet at 5:15PM.  Pre-Senior practices will end at 6:45 and Senior Team practices will end at 7:15PM Mon-Thursday

Time to bring WW back!

This Wed, Jan 12.
8:15-8:30 pm.

Coach Carla
1-5-11

I have attached the updated January calendar for your review.  Some notable changes:

Practice this Friday for Advanced, Pre-Senior, and Senior Team will be at the Village Pool during our regular practice time due to a Pool Conference the City of Georgetown is hosting.

Other important dates: B Champs entries due NOW!  Final entries due Sunday!

Here is a note from the B Champs Meet Host concerning hotel accommodations:

Room blocks have been reserved at the Drury Inn & Suites San Antonio Airport, 95 NE Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78216, 210-366-4300

Convenient to North Star Mall and only 4 miles from the pool!

B Championships - January 21, 22, 23:

The group rate is $84.95 for a standard double or $94.95 for a two room suite - Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings.

To make your reservations on line, you may use the link below:

http://www.druryhotels.com/Reservations.aspx?groupno=2102913

or you may call 1-800-325-0720 to make your individual group reservations.  Please specify the San Antonio Airport Location  and reference the Group Name – STSI B Championships.

Cut-off date:  Reservations received after Thursday, January 6, 2011 will be provided on a space-available basis at prevailing rates.

I have not yet received any t-shirt design ideas for our 2011 Shortcourse season t-shirt.  If you are interested in submitting one, please do so by SUNDAY.  Otherwise, I will just create a t-shirt with all of my self-claimed "hilarious" jokes that everyone loves to hear at practice so much.

I will be placing on order for team polos, so if you ordered one and you never received it or are NOW interested in one, please let me know!  They are $35 and come in grey, white, or black, and they also come in MEN's and LADY's sizes.

Also, the new Texas Gold high tech silicone caps are in!  These special “longer-lasting” caps are designed to fit a person’s head rather than a volleyball, and have a sharp new design.  If you ordered a silicone cap, you may pick it up at the Rec or Village Pool on Thursday.  If you would like to purchase one, they are $15.  We still have latex caps available for $5.  Both caps will be available at the meet this weekend.

Pre-Senior/Senior Teams:  The GHS high school swim team will be finishing up their practices no later than 4:45PM next week, which gives us an opportunity to start our practices earlier in the afternoons at the Village Pool.  I am proposing to start stretching at 5PM, and get wet at 5:15PM, so Pre-Senior swimmers will be done at 6:45PM and Senior Team swimmers will be done at 7:15PM.  If you have any complications with this proposal, please let me know by Friday!

January Statements:  January statements should be sent out early next week, I apologize for the delay!  These statements will include January monthly training fees, meet fees incurred in December, equipment purchases, and any outstanding balances.

Good luck to our Texas Gold Swimmers competing at the 2011 New Year’s Classic hosted by Longhorn Aquatics.  Friday’s participants will get a rare treat to witness and compete against the men’s national championship team from the University of Texas Swimming!

Coach Dale will be on deck Friday prelim/finals, Saturday prelims, and Sunday prelim/final (I am a groomsman in my best friend's wedding in Ft Worth, and will need to be in Ft Worth by 3:30 for pics, and will be heading back Sunday morning in time for the meet start on Sunday)

Coach Ben will be on deck Friday prelims, Saturday prelim/finals, and Sunday Prelim/Finals

I am currently OUT of adult grey small t-shirts, but will try and have other sizes and colors available at the meet.  We will placing an order for shirts once we get our championship design finalized.

I have attached a preliminary relay report for your review that lists only GOLD Georgetown swimmers.  The fastest 2 relays in each event will be swum during finals, so please look at the psych sheet to determine when your relay will be swum.  Your coach will go over this with everyone in the morning, and if you are not able to participate, please notify your coach ASAP.

This is a PRELIMS/FINALS meet.  You qualify for finals when your prelims time is the top 16 fastest swim in your age group (top 8 for 10&U 200 free and IM, and top 8 for 11-12 500 free/400IM).  Sometimes, a few of the top 16 swimmers SCRATCH, which means they do not intend to swim in finals, which pushes up the #17, 18, and so on swimmers.  If you intend on NOT coming back that evening, you need to scratch (but notify your coach FIRST).  If you qualify for finals and fail to scratch, there are severe penalties (you will be removed from the remainder of the meet/or charged a significant fine).

STROKE OFFICIALS:

All Stroke and Turn officials who are parents of GOLD Georgetown athletes competing at this meet will have their coaches meet fees waived (which is $5 per session for local meets, $10 per session for overnight meets)  Additionally, I have heard the meet host will cover your parking expenses, but you may want to check with Ron on that!

Here is a note from the meet referee, Ron Zolno rzolno@brsgroup.com :

As you may know, there is going to be a three-day Prelim-Final meet at the Swim Center at the University of Texas from January 7-9, 2011.  The plan is to run this meet in two short-course pools in both Prelims and Finals.  To assure that this meet is well run, we need a fairly large officiating crew.  Therefore, anything you can do to help out would be appreciated.  If you can work the meet please let me know as soon as possible (along with the sessions you can work, preference between boys’ end and girls’ end for Finals if you have one, and your position/level of certification).

Let's get ready for some SUPER FAST SWIMMING!!!!

GO GOLD!!
